Vice President Palin?

Published Friday, June 13, 2008

Is Gov. Palin trying to get herself on the national ticket with Republican candidate John McCain? No, but others sure are.

One of the latest efforts is being pushed through a Web site called PalinforVP.com and involves a two-minute ad for Palin posted on YouTube (at www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXfiOSCfY44).

“National debt . . . corruption in Washington . . . the Republican party in a moral crisis.”

“Who will lead a common-sense revolution in America?” asks the ad.

Palin, of course.

The ad runs through news clippings, Palin TV appearances, and newscasters describing the governor’s popularity. Tracy Chapman sings in the background, “Finally the tables are starting to turn -- talking ‘bout a revolution . . .”

“Oh jeez,” Palin’s spokeswoman, Sharon Leighow, said today when she heard about the ad.

The governor didn’t have anything to do with the ad and isn’t doing anything to encourage the group or silence it, Leighow said. “She really hasn’t said anything other than she’s flattered by all the attention.”

When asked about the VP spot, Leighow added, “She says she loves being governor of Alaska, she’s got a lot on her plate, and she feels she can best serve the nation being governor of Alaska.”

Yeah, but . . . Palin has also said she wouldn’t mind serving in national office some time, and she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of starting in January (at the inauguration).

As for reports that she’d met with a McCain VP “scout,” Leighow said they’re simply not true.

There were rumors that such a person was in Juneau, Leighow said, but the governor’s office didn’t hear from anyone.

“I’ve received a lot of calls from different media and from across the country, and different bloggers,” she said. “They ask the same thing. . . . There’s been nothing.”
