It is time to push again for Alaskan labor to fill every available job in the oil industry. This will take a combined effort by the state, our learning institutions, the oil companies themselves and most of all
we Alaskans. Get the skills and get the jobs. Get into union apprenticeship programs, take classes,
whatever it takes, get the jobs. The oil industry pays well and it takes a lot of money to live up here.
There will be a large number of construction jobs and infrastructure jobs that will go to people from elsewhere if we don't make the big effort. Fight inflation on the local level - get those good paying jobs and keep the money up here. Sure we know these companies are often crooked as a dogs hind leg, doesn't mean the jobs are bad or the money doesn't spend. The more Alaskans on the payroll the better.

It is all hooey anyway. They have had the ability to send large "envelopes" of gas down the TransAlaska Pipeline for the last 10 years. Glennallen would be the natural split off point for a line going to the valley and a new generating facility there. Pump Station 6 by the Yukon would be an ideal place to send gas from by boat for western Alaska. So much we can do and no reason not to. We can sell from Valdez as well. We don't even have it together to have mostly Alaskans doing the work up north now let alone plan for the future. While Veco was horsing it to us has ended we have done no job at all of picking up the pieces in a way that Alaskans gain new jobs.

I am still reeling from the logic I get thrown at me when I mention actually paying the debt we have incurred with such mind boggling gusto as a country, the last few years. Yep we are going to do it by NOT PAYING IT !!! Hey that makes sense to me. We are going to stimulate our economy by not only not paying our bills but borrowing more. All you Republicans out there spouting this drivel - see how long you keep your house and car and personal fortune by staying that course then come back and tell us how successful it was. Taking down my country is what you are doing. I don't have words in my vocabulary to fully express the depth of my hatred for you.

Part of being a man is having to compete with other men for available females. These guys are not competition. Thanks guys!

What space? I have never encountered such a large structure with so little usable space. Truly an
engineering feat there. I couldn't find the giant copper nugget when I was there last. Progress strikes again. It is bright and sunny though and a nice place to be.
It is amazing how many Alaska artifacts are gathering dust over in European Universities and museums.
Even the tiny country of Estonia has an amazingly large Aleut collection. It would be a step forward for us to begin the long process of recovery and sharing of these lost items. Done on a long term plan with careful diplomacy it would draw us closer to those countries and their universities. This would have many side benefits.

I still remember learning the drill rig I was working on at Watana was owned by Arliss Sturgelewski's
drilling company. A small step in my loss of innocence about the mindboggling conflicts of interest that
have gone on in our fair state.

While our attention is continually shoved towards ANWAR the real story- the one most important for Alaska is in the opposite direction. Petroleum Reserve No. 4 an area of huge proven reserves both gas
and oil. The westgrowing networks of roads, pipelines and oil handling facilities provide genuine
infrastructure for the industry. ANWAR fits with the strategy of jumping straight across the border into Canada with a new exit pipeline all together. All you out there that believe developing this field will benefit Alaska are being naive about the aims of the industry the last several years.

Ah good we are busy pointing our fingers at each other - what better way to neutralize the opposition?
Personally before G.W. came in I never heard the words," the investors were nervous so the price per barrel went up so many dollars today." The answer is simple: a corrupt and ruthless bunch of conmen and swindlers are ripping as many dollars out of the U.S economy as they can on their way out. Who are these investors? The oil companies themselves. Meanwhile they don't give a damn that they are making our enemies stronger- they just make more money off of that. Unfortunately it can end in the end of our country - this is not tiddlywinks going on here.

James, here in the United States of America what you are describing is a very ordinary union job. In this
state citizens are free to organize and by doing so are able to secure for themselves a lower middle class
stable income with benefits. I get tired of listening to these people bellyache about teachers pay.
They live in a fish bowl and have to deal everybodies poorly disciplined darlings. Would you want to do it?
If you do get your butt to school and start jumping through all those hoops.
In the meantime try looking hard at your government that wants to put you in direct competition with
people in foreign countries working for dirt cheap wages.

The price of change.... Wait till we have the boom that so many people are hoping for. It will be a disaster. Just like the last one there is no way in hell we have the infrastructure to handle it. It will be gridlock all the way baby. Enjoy the calm before the storm cause believe me this is nothing.
