Good job Amanda for sticking up for yourself and taking care of business. If you had not, your computer would be at the pawnshop. If the police are so overwhelmed, maybe the state should put more funding into the department. I know there are cuts everywhere, if they took the T.V.'s out of the jails and other unnecessary supposed neccesities then there would be more money for the department. Just a thought.

I believe, if you are an Alaska residient in the military with the intent of coming back to live in Alaska after your tour, you are able to collect your dividend. My friends son inlaw is in the Navy and has been in for the past three years and he and his wife both collect theirs. They will return next year to live here.

Why are there so many negative comments? There are many different kinds of music, everyong has diffrent tastes, let it be. I for one am happy to see a top name musician come to Alaska, too often we are let out in this area for whatever reason. Be happy if you have the chance to see them. If you don't care for their music then don't go, don't begrudge those that do like it and can go.

You see the same thing everywhere, driving between Tok and Fairbanks, try stopping at one of the rest areas. As soon as you get out of your vehicle and look over the edge of the pullout, there are used diapers, trash from McDonalds, cigarette butts, and whatever else was in their vehicle. why people do this is beyond me. Have a little pride. Put you trash in a bag and drop it at the next place that has a trash can. It is that simple. I always have trash bags in my vehicle and always pick up other people's trash as it embarrasses me to have people travelling through our beautiful state or us (Alaskans) to see how we treat our own land.

We had kids steal something out of the back of our truck while we were sitting in it at Regal Cinemas. They were quick, much quicker than we were, I sure hope they enjoyed that $154.00 ink cartridge for our hp printer. I know they will find great use for it as I am sure they had an hp printer just like it at home. It was in a bag, they didn't even know what they were taking, they were just taking what they could grab. Some punk probably driving his mommies car.

It appears that there are different points of view regarding Nancy's point of view. I have witnessed on several occasions the abuse of pet dogs and or sled dogs tied to chains and never been let off. As a young girl it was my mission to make friends with all dogs that were tied up, I would take them snacks I would ask the owner(s) if I could walk their dog(s). Some would let me and this would make both myself and the dog happy. I hated seeing them tied. Where I grew up there was no animal control, so there was not one to report anything to if there were animals being abused. This was my way of helping.
My husband has given a couple of his sled dogs away in the past. We do not sell or give any dogs away anymore because of the following incident. One of the two sleddogs we had given away, we happened upon a month later. He was tied and he had not been fed or watered. He was starving to death, my husband took the dog and did the most humane thing possible, put him down, he was a 60 lb dog when we gave him away and he weighed less than 25 lbs when we found him. That was in 1987, we have not given a dog away since. For those that will ask if you loved your dogs so much why did you give them away? We lived in a village on the Yukon at the time and one of the young people in the community was interested in startig a dog team, we had a dog that was not working out and wanted to help out someone interested in the sport. We thought we were doing a good thing.
We both love our dogs, my pet dogs are my babies, they are not tied, we live on 5 acres, they know their boundaries. When we are at work or if we don't take them with us when we go to town they are in a huge pen during the warm months or they are in the house when it is cold. I walk my dogs everyday, I plan our vacations around when I can have a reliable dog sitter stay at my home while we are gone. Our dogs are like our kids, I worry about them the same as my kids. I would feel horrible if something happened to them or anyone else for that matter because of my neglectfulness. We have a chocolate lab, Rottweiller and a pitbull/hound. They are always entertaining.

What a tragic and horrific incident. Forgiving would be hard, but the young man is your son. I hope you have the strength to get through the pain that you are going through and will have for the rest of your life. Your son definately needs psychological help. My heart goes out to you.

Imusuallyright....I think your name says it all. I would hate to go through life thinking like you do. My father served in the military in Canada, my husband served in the army here, my father in law served in the Navy and my son is in the Navy. They are all are and were good people. Shame on you for your comments. There are good and bad people in every group or class of people. You should look at life with a more positive attitude and maybe you will be a happier person.
We can live the way we live because of the mility past and present, we should be thankful for them, don't condem everyone for one or two people's actions. I thank anyone that has served our country, thank you!

I would like to wish all the mushers in this race the best of luck and be safe. Our son Peter MacManus and his cousin Jayson Russell will be driving out the first team for honorary musher Pete MacManus, their grand father who lost his life and most of his dog team in a plane crash after completing the 75th anniversary race in 1983. I am so glad they are being allowed to participate in this part of the race for our family.
To AKNATUFF Lance Mackey has accomplished something to be proud of. He is an awesome dog musher, so is Jeff King, there are many other good mushers running in this race also. Try not to be negative, this is a good thing and great for the sport.
