I have no idea what you were trying to say, other than listening to yourself rant, but perhaps you could make better use of the edit function in these comments so that your grammer and spelling made what little sense there is to be had...........

I believe the editorial is encouraging you to utilize your right to vote as your voice of choice. Stop whining and start participating.

"Fourteen months later, a GVEA nominating committee decided that despite Tom’s position as an incumbent board member, he was insufficiently qualified to run for re-election."

Do the facts or truth ever enter in to any of this nonsense?

It seems someone missed the parents' point. The score just wasn't included with the picture. A Hutch player made the front page with no mention of the historic win. A first at anything is always a big deal...if not to all, to those involved or interested, and it is nice to have it mentioned for all to see. As a Hutch parent, I have enjoyed the support of folks from all parts of towns and parents from all schools as Hutch makes it's way as a new school, building healthy competitive sports programs for it's students. How about a few less "shots" at the parents for just asking for some accuracy a fairness. It is true, the "big" schools do get the majority of the press and the small schools get what's left, even if the small school story is the bigger story.

I've read all the posts about taxes and who's responsibility it is and it would fail and..........Go to Anchorage. For $20 you can spend all day at H2Oasis and it's just a place to go hide from the cold and kill time. An indoor sports complex with areas for spring and summer sports would benefit all of the youth who should have an opportunity to participate in these activities as a means to healthier development. More months of playing time means more chance for advancement. JB is correct. We can unite and find sponsors and grants to cover the costs of construction and if we can't find someone to manage it to be self supporting, we have hired the wrong manager. It does not need to generate huge profits. It needs to be affordable to the people/teams who need to use it. It just needs to pay for itself......its operation and maintenance expenses. The local high school soccer teams have lost the first 4 games of a 10 game season due to weather. With the investment of parent and school monies to provide these opportunities to play varsity sports, wouldn't it be nice to actually get to play? The community good is called that for a reason.

How much money would GVEA save a year if they only offered the "perks" of coming to the annual meeting at the end of the meeting? How many concerned members show up and register only to get their ($15) credit, have some free drinks and cookies and go home without staying for the meeting? Let folks register and then pick up their credit at the END of the meeting. Let's reward those that sit through the chest pounding and name calling to try to glean some good information and deny freebies to those that don't care. It's your cooperative. If you don't choose to participate why do you think you deserve free treats and rebates? In a democratic society, we have many freedoms and with freedoms comes a need to participate. If you don't go to the polls to vote your choice on candidates and issues, shut up when you don't like the results. Likewise, if you just think being an owner/member of GVEA is about free cookies and rebates once a year, shut up.

Do you hear all the people calling for "someone" to FIX IT? At the meeting last night, how many local politicos were present? The mayors? How about local legislators or representatives? There wasn't anyone present to carry the message to the State leverl. The level of apathy here is high as ever. We don't like the results, so rather than get involved to see what we can do to help, we name call and insult. Chest pounding and being the loudest voice in the room still doesn't make you the most correct. Turn your frustration into action. Become involved, be a volunteer, get out of your house to do something positive in the community and while you're gone, turn off the lights and turn down the heat, it will help cut your bills. We have become so spoiled in our abuse of resources that we are completely unwilling to accept any responsibility for correcting the problem.

Ice skate? Have you seen the waiting lists and competition for ice in this town? And......the cost of ice rental? Please. Summer season sports have been reduced to a couple of months at best. Perhaps the cost of juvenile detention centers is less than positive, accesible activities for youth.....or even better.....maybe local employers will become eager to higher youth to help them defray their expenses and keep them off the streets. Probably not, since kids do appear to any longer be our collective responsibility. Anchorage has not had many problems approaching private industry to help them get the facilities they "want" for their youth, perhaps someone here could take a hint from them and investigate the resources available.

It is interesting that a school that is fast becoming an International leader in geophysics and polar research can't find a balance. It's true that education is the purpose of a university, but also true that well run athletic departments bolster the school's economy rather than become a drain on it. Perhaps the system of recruitment for upper administrative positions should include their ability to balance an all purpose budget. I don't feel the students should have to pay increasingly higher tuitions to get an education for any reason......especially with some of the state's budget spent on more frivolous pursuits. So, how about doing what Fairbanks does best and band together to find a solution that will support our outstanding university AND provide quality athletic opportunities with coaches staying long enough to remember their names.

What a loss to the school & the community. With little to no support from the administration, leadership has been reduced to the win column. Perhaps having the UAF administration resign would be more efficient and effective than continuing to lose coaches every year...but then who would be around to change the names?

No, I'm just having faith that what the committee said is true. They did their job and found candidates that brought more to the table. I am very interested to see the stories about the candidates that WERE nominated. In this time of change, fresh perspective might be welcome. I don't hear any of the other candidates that weren't selected grousing about the process. The found to be lacking is simply in referance to the fact that he wasn't nominated. If he runs by petition, fine. Just accept that and move on. Go to a board meeting and petition for change and get over being upset that the process that is in place didn't suit your wishes. You keep trying to infer a cover up or conspiracy. Could it be that there are simply other people equally or better qualified? Say it isn't so. And, finally, you think it's starting to smell now because my opinion doesn't agree with yours? Get over yourself.

On Bottom line
