The cost of an airline ticket to rural Alaska is outrageous. AND unless something is done soon the isolation will only get greater.
Need pilots but the airlines need passengers and freight, too.

The State of Alaska's oil revenue is flowing into the piggy bank full bore. Short term energy relief for ALL ALASKANS is a top priority. But finally the message is soaking in that ALASKA needs an alternative to OIL for our energy needs.
Invest wisely and for the benefit of ALL ALASKANS. The possibilities are endless, if we don't get bogged down in local greed and petty politics.
Expanding the scope of the "Alternative Energy Fund" to include medium term solutions of natural gas and synthetic fuel made from Alaska's abundant coal, are steps in the right direction. But let's not forget; geothermal, wind, tidal, hydro and other renewable energy sources in the process. Nor should we ever forget that environment and beauty of ALASKA is our eternal gift for each of us to enjoy and protect.

Wonder how much "surplus" revenue is flowing into the State of Alaska piggy bank???
With the Stock Market going down and oil going up, wonder if some ECONOMIST are re-plotting the cross over of earnings of the Permanent Fund and oil revenues of which one brings in the most money???
It is just to bad that stingy politicians just want to talk about helping ALASKANS get ready for winter.

JohnQpublic: Right on!!! Might ask one more question:
Which Legislator is going to introduce THE NORTH SLOPE GAS INVENTORY TAX? Might think of it as a punitive tax on undelivered natural resources. How about treble the going rate for an incentive, too. Nothing like a Sovereign State use of the tools at hand to encourage the development per the Constitution.

WHERE IS THE GAS? Time to quit talking about North Slope gas and start pumping it down the line. Oil is over $146 bbl today and at the present rate of acceleration you can 'turn out the lights the party is over'.
Come on bullet line!!! My money is on the little pony to get to Fairbanks first. Who's ordering the pipe? Better do it quick!!!
The neighbor's tree is looking better and better by the minute. Now where is my bow saw and ax???

Keep arguing on who should and shouldn't get the $1200 peanut money. The way that price of oil and everything else is sky rocketing, the SUPPLIMENTAL ENERGY DIVIDEND might buy you a package of gum to exercise your jaws...and that is all that it is going to buy.
Come on Legislature and Governor Palin; get the check in the mail before the first frost or you are going to miss all the "geese" that are headed south.

ONAPA and DistantTunder: Watch out, if we get a leak in your perpetual motion lines, they will be calling Alaska "The Land of Milk and Honey". But, I wonder if we could substitute Delta Barley for the Oatmeal?
Come on Legislators, LET'S GET A GAS PIPE LINE BUILT, starting right after the 4th of July fireworks.

THANK YOU GOVERNOR PALIN!!! Now Alaskan Legislators let's make it a one day session and get the Bills past to help ALASKANS before the first frost.
You might think about doubling the $1200 energy dividend as the amount the Governor has suggested was based on $120 bbl oil. And the last I check it was up to $143 and headed up, too.
Heat is only part of the problem; food and about everything else is headed out of sight due to the energy crisis, while our state piggy bank is busting at the seams.

Bush's Administration wrote off Alaska...HUM-M-M?
Wonder if the States that get to modify the "No Child Left Behind Act" are swing States with Electoral College votes?
HUM-M-M, Maybe what we need is a BIGGER percentage of In-Lew-Of-Taxes for the federal property in Alaska...with no strings attached. Let's see, how much land does the federal government own in Alaska? Yep, we might have a MIT or a HARVARD built in every Alaskan community that has a student.
On Alaska left out of program to tailor No Child Left Behind act

Wish Mayor Whitaker would have taken a little different approach, as this direct assault sound a little like "extortion", "quid-quo-pro" or some other fancy name.
It is true that South Central has been given preferential treatment in Cook Inlet gas prices for a number of years, BUT the goal should be to reduce the energy cost for ALL ALASKANS throughout the state.
arcticracer: Understand your frustration of being treated like second class citizens from our neighbors in "Los Anchorage" and "Mecca Juneau". But in the past, FNSB hasn't exactly been a "fountain of sympathy" for the third class citizens in rural Alaska.
Your correct that, "If the energy crisis is not tackled effectively and quickly, parts of Alaska will become a ghost town." It is already happening. The problem is as more people escape Interior Alaska, less representatives in the Legislature, hence less State funding until the point they lump you in with some Southeastern communities for your district and don't give you any funding at all.
Come on ALASKA lets pull together and get things done. Now somebody explain to me why Interior and Western Alaska can't have reduced State surcharge on heating oil, that is produced right here in Fairbanks???
