Suddenly a lot of people have confisdence in the fairness of our justice system as well as it's effectiveness. How incredible!

The new law about texting is aimed at young people. It seems we always pick on the youth. Alaskans must hate their young. Just enforce the current laws. Personally it's not the talking on the phone but trying to see the tiny screen while driving down the road that gives me a problem. I suggest baning bifocals while driving.

This is a common scene. A company controls the major (or only) supply of resources and/or jobs in a small community. After getting what they initially ask for in acquiring the business they threaten to close shop unless the public gives them some form of extra financial incentive to increase their profits.

Where is all the talk of fiscal certainty as far as contracts are concerned? Where is the talk of free markets? Where are the capitalist methods of improving facilities and products to lower costs and increase profits. It's all a sham.

I doubt the information that the state eventually gets will be easily deciphered. In the mean time political pressure will build to force the State to improve and guarantee increased profits for billionaires. It would be nice if the State could use the refinery to pass on royalty backed lower fuel prices but the legislature has already received the Governor's proposal to alleviate our fuel prices by directly sending us a bonus dividend.

Let them sell it to someone who will make a commitment our community since they will not.

There is no settling this. Afganistan is different. Think of all the macho sterotypes that get tossed around about Alaska: rugged, independent, don't care how they do it outside. resourceful, armed, and willing to use it, traditional, conservative, family centered, don't like the central government, even religious (we don't like that part).

There is one big difference between Afgans and Alaskans, they mean it. They walk the walk without the boasting and the posturing. They just do their thing. Get in their way and they'll try to go around you. Try to change them and they will ignore you. Be a bother to them and they will fight.

Scattered bits of their history: the Brits fought them and after agreeing to leave were attacked on the way out. So were the Russians. Moslem armies first entered Afganistan in tyhe 700's but the country was not completly converted to Islam till the late 1800's. Though they gave shelter to Osama I don't believe any of the 9-11 attackers were Afgans. They stood up to the most powerful nation (us) not because they were powerful, or especially interested in world wide jihad but simply he was a friend who had stood by them and it was against their moral code to not protect him.

All the talk of nation building is just that. Name a nation (other than Japan) that we put on a western system and that we are not proping up with our money, that includes Isreal.

So much for community planing. The problem is that the Borough, University, and Mental Health Trust are sitting on most of the good land. When something is released there are requirements to max out the number of lots. The result is marginal land having suspect septics and unsustainable roeds.
In general the assembly does not heed the concerns of neighbors. In their view all development is good and anyone objecting just has an attitude.
I suspose it'll be said the tax base is improved this way and real estate values are maintained. What's next have our children sing for the tourists. Fairbanks motto: Let no tree be left standing.

We can't legalize it since that would cut into Exxon's profits. Are you all anti-business?

Is it a little more clear now? You are inticed to vote based on some so-called social conservative basis but it's only a front for a business agenda that has mo morals, no conscience, and no patriotism. Don't be fooled, Exxon is controlled by the ultra rich for the ultra rich as are the banks and the stock and futures exchanges. The business of the Supreme Court is business not the Constitution.

I don't know about Obama but Bush has wrecked the American economy and misplayed his hand terribly. Any change is a step in the right direction. The really bad part is that it may take decades to recover no matter who we elect. Many people are still in denial about Bush's corruption and hypocrisy. Remember when he got in office the federal debt was almost eliminated. He reversed that before summer was out and before the attacks. He ravaged our country worse than the Saudis did on 9-11.

Sorry for the bad editing. Here is the corrected version for those English majors out there.

SpiritofAlaska you are not!
Is it too much to ask to have a small spot to lay your head? That could be you. We all get by through grace or luck. All our hard work may improve our situation but that is a dream that can quickly crumble. What will you pay for fuel this winter? Will you cut back or just leave? Oh that's right, Sarah and the State government will rescue you because somehow you are worth rescuing. What's that you say, it's your resource, your money but not their land?
