The reporter was correct in his facts. The 80% figure is old, and it is now 100% of median income - the number reported is correct. People making above the incomes he wrote qualify for the rebate program, where they pay for the work and can earn rebates. Those making below those income limits qualify for the FREE weatherization program and get the work done for no cost.

The competition absolutely encourages walking to work! There are many categories for recognition including walking, biking, carpooling, and taking the bus. Yes, those living the furthest will accumulate more miles saved, but that's a good thing right?? There's also a category for number of days participating. It's simply a positive friendly competition for our community to at least take some action towards looking at how we use fuel.

Yes yes! Thank you. We have wasted too much time and been asleep about our energy future. HB 152 supports a clean and renewable energy future for Alaska. Call your Senator AND call Stedman, it's okay to go outside the box, especially when the box has kept us addicted to fossil fuels and stuck with high energy costs.

Bravo for coverage of a sustainable energy idea! HB152 is a bill which provides long-term clean solutions for Alaska. It's exciting to read how popular this one is down in Juneau. The other bill mentioned is senate bill 289 Home energy conservation and efficiency. This bill can assist just about everyone in Alaska, and most importantly, can provide relief right away!! This is what the Interior needs, immediate action on the energy crisis Mayor Whitaker refers to. Contact your representative in Juneau and ask him/her to support this important bill. The session is over in a couple of weeks and it needs to pass now so we can weatherize before next winter! Retrofits and Renewable energy - solutions for Fairbanks! The legislators are getting it right.
