I lived in Oceanside California for 20 years and watched more and more people come until it was so crowded and polluted and expensive it wasn't fit to live in anymore.

SOME ONE ASKED US TODAY ABOUT THE PERMITS WE WILL NEED TO BUILD THE CABIN. Roger went to the bureau to ask about the permits -- they asked us where we are building and when we told them they said we don't need any just take pictures as we build. Is Alaska cool or what??

miganut,
Wow, that UTUBE WEB CAM MOVIE was fun to watch, good work. It is getting light really early now, I love the Midnight sun and the invigorated way it makes you feel.
The first few years we came up for the summer we were using black out curtains on the windows to sleep at night. But not any more, it isn't so different from taking a nap during the day. And we sleep just fine now without covering the windows.
That constant sun sure makes fruits and veggies grow really BIG! and makes up for the short summer.

Hello to all viewing the Arctic Cam,
We had a wonderful visit with our cousins and are now back on the road heading home. I called Sprint Broadband Air Card service today to ask if I would be charged extra if I use the Internet in Canada and they said Yes --roaming charges!
So, I'm sorry to say I didn't budget that into our travel expenses and once we cross into Canada I won't be going on-line. I'll miss reading all your comments and I really wanted to take you all along on our trip up the ALCAN highway.
I will let you know when I go silent and hope to be back on-line a week from Thursday. Kathy
Thank you Daily News-Miner for giving us a way to meet people from all over the world and share stories and learn from each other.

Rose,
the web cam is inside the building, you can see it when you are standing in the parking lot looking up at the windows, Kathy

Hello ArcticCam viewers,
Roger and I have arrived in North Pole, Alaska, today right on schedule. We only had one mishap, we went to change our money in Canada and drove to a Mall in Chillywack British Columbia. We kind of slid at the stop light but got into the parking lot OK. After coming out of the bank Roger noticed fluid leaking out of the back of the coach. {it is a 36 foot Fleetwood Southwind and we are towing a car} Both of our rear brakes went out. We called Canadian Tire, they ordered the parts and installed the new breaks the next day. This is the second time Canadian Tire has come to our rescue. They are the nicest and most professional folks you will ever deal with.
Had we gone into the mountains with those brakes I wouldn't be writing to you now!
We saw so many animals along the way but my favorite was the Momma Black Bear with Triplets!
It is so good to be home. I doubt that I can get the Internet out on our land but will check in when we come into Fairbanks to shop.
If any of you have wondered if the trip by car or motor home is worth your time -- the answer is: YES! Kathy
