I am sorry for your loss and pain

Remember that th eTV show CSI is fiction. In real life DNA testing and paint transfer analysis are not done in minutes. In reality they take months to complete. There is a tremendous backlog for all forensic testing, this is a major hurdle for almost all investigations. Dont discount that because the offender was 16 they will get away with the crime. Additonally, by releasing information to you, it could potentially alter an investigation. I am sure the Troopers want to clear this up as soon as possible as well. It may be in the DAs hands as well. The DA certainly isnt moving cases along very fast these days.

You are thinking of Kevin Lamm. He was killed in the line of duty 1/1/1998. His father Lynn was a Police Chief somehwere in South East Alaska if I recall correctly.
The North Pole Police Chief is Paul Lindhag who's son Jeromey is a Patrol Sergeant at Fairbanks Police Department.

Not that it matters either way.

Bring back the Tournament of Champions
NCAA Div II, NAIA and NCAA Div III
Those teams will more than likely be willing to come up and compete
It will still be good basketball

So the assistant is worried about making sure kids who committed to come to UAF know the tourney is a no go because it might effect their decision (my understanding) but they wouldnt let kids leave when they fired the coach last year. Something doesnt seem right with that
