At least I know what CAPS are for, and I never said mine were angels, but they surely don't have this type of record.

Ok. I could not find the FCC thing. So I will take that back. what I did find is 3 criminal charges involving alchohol, and 4 minor offenses, three of which are related to driving, and one which was undsclosed. It looks like a string of little mistakes by a very responsible young adult.

1. North Pole Police did not respond because Garnett is not in the city limits proper.
2. The kids friends didn't drive him home for two reasons: a.) they are in jail (tried to get them out of FCC with a dozer- remember?) b.) he really doesn't have any other friends (this is the story I heard- I have kids)
3. The "kid" is a young adult, and has quite the record already- I am sure the neighbors are sick of his antics, and he needs to be continually held responsible for his behavior until he changes it.
4. This was "news" in Auststralia- hey, this is not news at all! I is more like a local comic strip, and yup North Pole is the subject of more redneck, white trash antics.

H20s, WtWlly, Yukonjohn, I am with you guys. It is imperative to protect oneself, and even more imperative to thoroughly asses a situation before acting. I am convinced that responsible gun owners are aware of the serious issues that will arise should a situation be assessed improperly. Those who carry guns will continue to do so, and protect ourselves as well as anyone else who “would protect themselves if they could” after properly assessing the situation- it is our right. I am a girl and am not fond of “squealing like a little school girl”, and refuse to do so, as it doesn't solve problems. So gentlemen, continue to carry in good health.

It is indeed a light saber!
I do not care how ridiculous people may think you all are- you are wonderfully entertaining. You are also obviously reasonably smart as well.
It may just be too late at night- but I sure got some gut exercise with all that laughing. Thanks!
On another note, I really wish people could just respect things that obviously do not belong to them. I highly doubt either of these fires did not have help being started by some whack job that just does not care about anyone's personal property.
Please do not spell check me- it's bed time.

So much of this teaching children how to behave begins very early in life- way earlier than they have the ability to "cyberbully". We Must teach our children right from wrong, and bullying is wrong. We MUST teach them not to engage in such behavior (I am not saying that children should not be able to defend their person). This is not the job of the government (thank goodness). In my opinion cyberbullying is a serious issue that must be dealt with- but the government has no place in it. I have seen the government (or representatives thereof) attempt to police situations- for example some kid comes up and "sac-taps" my kid in school- and my kid gets in trouble for hauling off on the other kid? NO WAY! Often when government gets involved we lose more freedom than the problem they were trying to solve caused. Please POM Uncle Ted and let him know how you feel (whether it be pro or con) at www.legis.state.ak.us/poms .

For starters, I would like to thank News Miner for not playing the "race card" in this article. When I read the header I thought for sure something would be mentioned- as it generally is. In that same breath, shame on all of you who introduced the "race card" into this discussion! Sure it may be what you all "see", but what we "see" is very often not the reality.
The reality is that we have a problem in Fairbanks. The reality is that it is not just on the Cushman/Illinois strip. The reality is that it is a terrible eyesore to those who would want to promote the downtown area. The reality is it is a problem in our community as a whole, and needs to be dealt with as such.
Many have heard the saying "build it and they will come", this rings true in so many ways. It is no secret that if alcohol is banned in a certain area, people will migrate to the area where it is not yet banned- beware what you ask for. It is no secret that daily these people wake up and find themselves in the same rut they were in yesterday, there is no doubt in my mind that our homeless community (most of which dance with alcohol) think daily about people that are no longer with us- some of which succumbed to alcohol. It is no secret that most of these people want to "do life" differently. No amount of law making and rule setting will change their daily behavior, they need to want to change. The problem is that there appears to not be enough support for these people at the moment they decide to change, and they go back to the old ways- I said appear, and we all know appearances are not always reality. I believe that government actually enables the homeless inebriate population more than they know, and these laws are not a fix. This population is already pretty migratory- it will not harm them to move a bit more, not like the climate will be different.
So, the next point of discussion should be what has helped? Thank you to all that have posted helpful (instead of harmful) threads to this community discussion. There are several things that have helped several people- that is what we need to focus on and build- because if we build it they will come. We have seen prohibition fail, we have seen asylums fail, we know hiding the problem or making rules so that the problem "disappears" fails. As a community lets come together and understand the root of alcoholism, and work together to help our fellow community members when they are ready for that help.
Help does exist in the community, and there are those who will attest to that (as we have heard).
I would like to thank the Mayor, Law Enforcement, local churches, various alcohol programs, and mostly the people of this community who are seeing the need and attempting to meet it, that is how change is made.

OH My Goodness! Not the Snipes! I have been hunting Snipes for a really long time, and I di not know what I will hunt if I cannot hunt them any longer!
Really, there is quite a difference between conservationism and environmentalism. I am all for conserving so that our grandchildren are able to enjoy the world as we have. I think sometimes we go entirely too far, and there absolutely has to be a middle line!
