I know that I'd feel terrible if I ran over a bike rider. I'd feel worse if I was the bike rider getting run over.
I have no problem sharing the road with bike riders, and waiting at intersections. The ones that are difficult to see for me are the ones that ride the wrong way down a one way street, like downtown. That's as close as I ever come to hitting anybody. You can look both ways for foot traffic, start to go, and a bike comes out of nowhere.

I disagree. The last place we should start drilling for oil is where there is no oil. There is oil at ANWR, we are in need of it, and we should drill there for it. And on the coastal plains, the Gulf of Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, wherever.
We now find ourselves "over the proverbial barrel" because of shortsighted politicians (and I dont mean W), and the electorate that put them there. We are truly on the precipice of dangerous times.

Believe me when I say that there is absolutely no doubt in my mind what a "devout liberal" that you are. You meet the #1 liberal criteria of arrogantly knowing, and not being shy in telling all, how to spend their money, even going so far as to telling people that you dont trust how they would spend their "potential" money. And you certainly aren't shy about the fine values that your own lifestyle has groomed, and how to share that knowledge with us peons. Please, enough with the arrogant advice to the unwashed. Personally, I do not want to be you (not that you're probably not a fine fellow).
Now that I got that off of my chest, to the point. I do not believe that the state of Alaska sharing the windfall with the citizens would be a "handout". There should be a simple formula, with a death sentence to the first lawyer that contests it, to share a billion or so dollars.

I dont want a prius. I dont want to be told what to drive. Sorry...I am proud to be a grumpy old conservative Alaskan American.

I dont think that anybody is looking for the kid to do prison time over this. Just to let him know that the park is not for bike riding. As opposed to the DNM allowing 15 minutes of fame to the young angel. Festival Fairbanks does a lot of work maintaining the park downtown, and in a couple of weeks there will be thousands of tourists meandering through the park. It's not that big of a deal now, but if the plaza becomes a hangout for BMX, then it could be.
I've had dealings with the 2 people working at Festival Fairbanks, and they are far from Gestapo guards. Unless you are terrified of people that clean up after the public and plant flowers.
And besides, dont the taxpayers pay for bike and skateboard parks?

Why so intent on sharing pain? I dont mean to be insulting, but I dont believe that more bus lines is going to do anything to solve these problems. And I really dont understand your 20% payment to energy providers. What is that about? Extortion? You dont trust people to use the money how you deem appropriate?
No, I think that besides conservation and exploring renewable energy, we also need fuel. Clean coal sounds good. A NG bullet line sounds like a feasible project.
As for passing out a billion dollars of the state's newfound windfall, I think that if that's the way that we go, there would be a fairer, more efficient way than per head. It cost about the same to heat a home if it's 1, 2, or 4 people living there. There could be some adjustment home to home. Maybe some formula, using cost of fuel and square footage. Just a thought. My only qualifier would be that the person lives here.
Pain is overrated as a solution.

The accusation is so serious, that he must be guilty. Forget the justice system, we'll just hang any politician that is accused. Why waste money on stupid things like trials and appeals?
And anybody that thinks different than that must also be guilty of corruption and thievery. Right...

At which point did I deny you your opinion? Disagree...yes. Deny...no.
And whether you know it or not, you are not the arbiter of these posts, so forgive me if I ignore your tips on posting etiquette. I find them condescending, and arrogant.
