remember people, the alleged endangerment of polar bears and seals is so controversial because it is a PROJECTED endangerment, based on theoretical models of the FUTURE. Currently, no one has been able to show any real data on CURRENT endangerment. By all accounts, they're just fine at present. Also, this is not the first time oddball members of a particular species have wandered far from their normal habitat. Remember the walrus in Cook inlet?

There is arsenic in Ester water because it has been there for thousands and thousands of years! Arsenic, like all other heavy metals, occurs naturally. No one brings arsenic into a placer operation, or even a hard rock mine, it would serve no purpose. The majority of mining in fairbanks history was placer mining. This means mechanical, gravity separation of minerals, no chemicals. In fact, arsenic is an indicator mineral. In modern mineral exploration we take interest in high arsenic concentrations in soil and water because those are areas that likely contain gold.

We have a mine mouth powerplant sitting idle in Healy as it has for some years now. The govt. spends approx 8 million a year to maintain it. Ultra-clean coal technology, power-plant employees swear it works. The solution seems obvious.
