one affect that the tax cap would have is to vastly limit the amount of firefighters on call. The building fire at the Northward building two nights ago probably would have killed more than one person if there were not emergency backup EMS/FF to help the city out. Depeartments such as Ester, North Star, Chena Goldstream, and Steese will pretty much loose their paid staff and will be strictly volunteer. Which means if it is a great fishing weekend you better hope your property doesn't need saving or someone you love doesn't need emergency medical assistance.

The driver hit you because he was driving drunk not because police were trying to chase him down to get him off the roads.
What a litigious society when our police get sued for trying to help the rest of us.
Pathetic

"because of the progress we are making in Iraq..."
Seriously, Mr. President, if we were sincerely "making progress" you wouldn't be deploying more troops.
And, for my own two sense, "selfless" is not the word I use. Military personel chose their life style just as the rest of us did. They do it for a variety of reasons. Being deployed ins't "selfless" it is doing what you are told, because that is what they are trained to do, and they want to keep their jobs and benefits.
I'm not against the military but I'm against them getting so high and mighty when they are merely doing the job that they SIGNED UP FOR!

In addition:
homosexual relationships might actually help "our" children. There are soooo many unwanted children in this country and even more around the world. Homosexual couples don't have the risk of breeding unwanted and unloved children and if they do want kiddos they can give a healthy happy home to one whose heterosexual parents couldn't.

Grow up and mature, please. Promiscuity and poor decision making breeds disease and in case you haven't noticed those problems transend sexuality. Comments and opinions as diluted and unrealistic of yours makes "land of the free" home of the oppressed.
Love is love and noone, especially no government, should have a say in how you can express that love.
Some day people will look back on this countrys homophobia with the same awe and disbelief that we look at racism and segregation.

All of you who are so anti democrats, do you really think that drilling in ANWR is going to make this problem go away. Don't call democrats the arrogant ones if you think this is the case. If you think that drilling with solve these energy problems you are selfish, plain and simple. It would solve the problem VERY SHORT TERM. Sure you'd be paying lower costs, but your kids and grandkids wouldn't even have a reserve to rely on. We should be looking for alternative sources of energy. Spend the money now so that the future won't find themselves in this situation! Grow up and have some maturity people. Just like our energy rebate checks: as much as I like having some extra money it was just a trick to get people to vote republican in the upcoming election. That "surplus" could have gone into research for alternative energy. This problem isn't going away with a little extra oil people. It'll be back and it'll be even worse.

I think it looks pretty but I'm not sure it is really quicker. The new airport in Anchorage also looks pretty...also not quicker. The new electronic check in makes for a mess during tourist seasons or even just full flights. You know have to wait in line to get your electronic ticket while negotiating all your bags don't hit someone. THEN you have to remanuever to a different line to wait again to turn your bags over to the airlines.
Faster? No.

Has anybody heard about No Child Left Behind??? Teachers are basically paid by how well kids do on tests....and guess what it isn't working!! Bush's ingenious idea takes funding away from schools that do poorly when obviously they are the ones that need it.
This article skews the offer made by in the mediations. Teachers are not being offered up to 10% salary increase. Their original offer was a 0% increase!
I'm surprised at the lack of support from the community on here.

He says that he can't sell the property due to the damage, but it has been FOUR years. Perhaps the property is devalued because people don't want to drive 125 miles from Fairbanks to go to a hotsprings. Gas prices and the economy are different now and I am sure $1 million "estimated" damages would help any of us in this economy.
I am sure if it were his property that had been in danger by that fire he would be singing a different tune.

Perhaps we should be looking at this as a good thing. Alaska frequently gets ignored during election times because of we have such a low number of constiguents compared to larger states. This is a good opportunity to have Alaska represented. Some you are so aligned with your own political party that you forget that we are in this as a state!
