Let me make myself clear. I first off, have never had an abortion nor would I personally participate in one myself, HOWEVER! I would never tell another woman how she should live her life. I RESPECT another person's choice to choose whatevery they decide to do in life and that is respecting someone else's freedom to choose what they want. What pisses me off about FDN is that, if you read a lot of their letters, they seem to side more on the "anti" side of this issue. I have noticed this and was CLEARLY STATING MY OWN FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN THAT MATTER. Ms VanDam. I am a mother of 3 children and had my oldest when I was 20 so I was a young mother. I worked hard and got a college education with a small child next to me. I never once asked for a handout and never received welfare. Now I did this because I personally wanted to not because someone told me or ordered me to do it. The same as raising a baby. If you are not ready for a child, then why bring a unwanted, unloved baby into the world to be a burden. I don't believe most women get pregnat because they want to it usually is because of an accident, i.e. condom breaking, wrong type of BC whatever the case maybe. I just don't appreciate bible thumping, hell condemning, preacher who is a child predator, catholics, baptist or whoever should tell me how to live my personal life. Let people live their own lives right here in the GOOD USA where we are supposed to be free to do so.

This is absolulty wrong for FDN to print this without a pro choice letter next to it. Newspapers are supposed to be "nuteral territory" for everyone to be able to discuss subjects in a semi rational manner. It is time for the executive staff at FDN to re-examine who authorizes letters like these to be printed and let the editor know that letters like these needs to hear both sides of the story REGARLESS OF HIS OWN PERSONAL CHOICE!

This is very unfortunate and we do not have any good applicants to take his place. Parell is a spineless coward who could not stand up to a willow blowing in the wind and we have Begich who is just as corrupt in the Anchorage area. Such a shame because Stevens is a very powerful political figure in Washington.

Absolutly. I cannot see how a person can move to Alaska and think that they can live off the PFD. It would be impossible to base your total yearly income on the PFD. However I have gone back and reread the FAQ's for the PFD and they are in black and white on who and how to qualify for the PFD. I understand that Alaska is expensive to live in and most people will tell you straight out that they do make more than people who work down south at basically the same jobs. The Cost of Living is higher and wages are higher and if people exect to move from the Lower 48 to "make it rich" right away are in for a rude awakening and they start to squawk about not getting the PFD. I cannot see how a person can preceive that they can move to Alaska and have their shares of the PFD right away. I got in a similar argument with a lady who thought she could move to Alaska and join a Native Corporation here because she belonged to a Reservation in the South. It does not work that way. The PFD was designed to give back to Alaskans for a small percentage of the oil taken from the State. You cannot move to a State and demand to be called a resident. It takes time. There is a saying that if you give someone something for free you will always see the ugly side of them. The PFD is free to residents and you will aways have someone crying from the background, they garnished mine because I went to jail, or I did not pay my child support or I cant get one because I was not in Alaska during the needed times. When free money is up for grabs you will always see the ugly in people.

However I have read somewhere amongst the compaints about a plan where people would get a percentage for the amount of time they lived in Alaska. I would support an idea like that. 10% for the first 5 Years and after 15 plus years then you get the full 100% of the PFD. I would be an idea. ( I really dont want to go back and reread the thread )

I did not change my stance from AK Born. If you look most AK people who were born in AK have a 574 #. I remember hearing it at like DMV that a person's SSN the first 3 letters indicate a state and I know all of Alaska is 574. I guess it depends on where you got your SSN #. I know my view is unreasonable however it would cut out alot of crap if it was just given to ALL state born residents. It would also cut out the Legislators, Senators and people who were not born in the State. If that does not work then let a person be a resident at least 5 years or more to qualify. (excluding people born in the State). But like most its my two (2) cents and those rusty pennies are mine so. blah.

WOW! Newsminerbrainminers is totally insane. I also have a college degree and am wife of a retired guardsman and business owner (yes he at one time did both and even served in Iraq). However you have taken this topic totally off track and made yourself look like a total ass on here. I went to UAF and know that Fairbanks has always been a college and military town. Majority of businesses thrive from the Post and from the campus. I am 100% and always will be support our troops and for someone to sit there and bash the men and women in uniform from behind a computer is a true coward. For those who are currently serving and have served in previous wars deserve our respect. From my great grandfather who was in WWII to my father who served in Vietnam to my husband who is a Iraqi war vet deserve a thank you especially from a person like you. Our forefathers til now all fought for the American Consitution and for idiots like you to speak without being shot on site.

BACK TO TOPIC * I still believe that the PFD should be for anyone who was born in Alaska and not immigrants or people who moved to the State*

I have always been and always believe that the PFD should only be entitled to people born in Alaska. Everyone who's SSN starts with 574 and should not be for anyone else who has moved to the state. I am not saying it would only be for Natives it would be for anyone who was born in the State.

I think the Newsminer should get the title right next time. They have YET to be sentenced in STATE Court for the HALLOWEEN ROBBERY! She was sentenced for covering up another crime.
