The dropout rate is misleading, because it counts a dropout as someone who starts 9th grade in the borough but does not finish 12th grade in the borough. We have a high military population, and the military has a way of moving their people around. So when a military kid starts 9th here, and moves before he graduates, this student would count as a dropout, regardless of whether that kid goes on to graduate in Texas or Germany or wherever. Statistics can really be made to support any viewpoint, and this should be taken into account when you are forming an opinion.

It really IS all about self-flushing toilets. Let's let someone else worry about the consequences for everything we do...

It's simple, really. This all goes back directly to the concept behind self-flushing toilets: No one wants to take responsibility for anything they do, including basic bodily functions. Wait--we will see people like the Hayes cropping up more and more in the new generation of kids raised on self-flushing toilets.

I think we can all be thankful that newsreader was not able to produce and indoctrinate more offspring. We can also hope that he has done a good enough job not to have any grandchildren who will continue to seed the planet with his genes.

Polarmark: Of course the schools don't teach critical thinking skills anymore. Haven't you heard of the No Child Gets Ahead Law? How in the world would kids stay in the "Proficient" range, if they actually thought about anything? All kids are taught anymore is how to regurgitate little factoids. Long live George Bush.

Let's just have a "Nuke a gay unborn whale for Christ" day, offend everyone, and get over it.

Wow. Natural selection will take care of the people who didn't "believe," (like global warming is some sort of religion, instead of science). The rest of us will have some chance to adapt to the new and different conditions on our planet. Hopefully that adaptation will include admitting that humans messed up and need to take better care of our resources in the future.
