This is my last comment on your paper. I stopped criticizing the anonymous nature of your editorial a long time ago (please search my comments in the upper right corner). I hope all of my fellow readers and Alaskans continue to challenge and question all media. Alaska is the last great place and deserves the utmost respect and protection. Please continue to question.

Let me say this (and hopefully it won't be removed like my previous comment that was completely APPROPRIATE and RESPECTFUL):
My views only help out your paper a great deal (regardless of what level of journalism you think you're at...).
What was just removed also included: no thanks, I don't want to take you up on your invitation to your editorial roundtable, but I am looking for a job and would love a daily column with MY NAME ON IT.
I can't believe you removed my comment after insulting me for remaining anonymous.

As challenged as the intelligence of virtually every argument is here, that's still the real story that needs to be addressed....
Thanks for reminding us of the need for corporate news decoding...

Good, point. I too struggle yet again in an inefficient rental. There is no liability or responsibility at all to these landlords who churn out inefficiency for a quick buck. Rentals need to face some sort of new 'efficiency-scrutiny certification process'. People complain that we don't need more government restrictions- well then start to care, develop ethics, and don't crap on your air quality and neighbors and the government can do more important things.

Give me a break. You're commending this guy because he's pleading for his life in the face of the FBI?? There's 'no end to the negativity' that's needed to properly criticize this regular column and its lack of intelligible arguments...

A great idea. Cutting people a check would only encourage more of the American way: OVERCONSUMPTION. These programs should get huge permanent funding sources, not 'one time fixes'. This will also help reduce the nasty air we breathe. Another 'PFD' check will only lead to more snowmobiles, big trucks, and gasping for air...

LadyNYC- to this day, one of my favorite books is Dick Proenneke's "One Man's Wilderness". I have heard the film is great and need to check it out...
He lived a dream many (especially those of us in AK) embrace.

To your first sentence, I think you could write up a couple War & Peace volumes on how our government has abandoned ethics with a sharpening pace this century. Did 9-11 require us to throw out key parts of our Constitution? Did it make it ethically OK to now engage in preemptive war and occupation to bring 'freedom, peace, and democracy'?
Your description and warning of American society's erosion is accurate (our government's role model encourages us to throw ethics out the door...). Our technology has helped escort us into a lazy, unimaginative bunch. Don't even get me started on TV....

Thanks for your letter. This is a raw deal being proposed. Doyon, an entity supposed to be representing the indigenous peoples with rights to this land, seems to have a rogue board that does not represent shareholders (from the sentiments expressed by some here in NM forums).
The USFW has betrayed everything it stands for in this stunning proposal. Here is who they are supposed to be (from the USFW website):
"SUBJECT: Mission Statement
A. What is the mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service? Our mission is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people."

This land swap is completely counter to any conservation, protection, or enhancement. HOW can they even propose this legally?? Why do they betray AK, eh?
