To play devil's advocate--- How do you not take a coach like Coach Smith? Very proven coaching record. In my mind there were 3 very good choices for the coach. All 3 of them could have been selected. Obviously Coach Sokaitis had the local support, but the AD chose another path. I have a feeling this will work out. Much more positive with this one than with the men's program.

A VERY good choice for Doyon. It should have happened months ago. Aaron is a class act. Just what Doyon needs.

More teacher bashers. I encourage you to become a teacher if it is as "rosy" as you say it is. Don't just sit there and complain about how good we got it, become one so you can be on the high horse! You have no clue what we do, nor does it seem you really care. It is much easier to be an arm chair quarterback than it is to be the real one.

On Teachers union, school district suspend contract talks

Akguy,

I invite you to come in and take over my class for ONE day. Then you tell me teachers are over paid. You have NO clue what it takes dealing with everything that teachers deal with. Maybe you work at a job where you arrive at 8 and leave at 5 and if something didn't get done, you'll get it tomorrow OR you can work OT. Guess what, no such luck in this profession! I invite all of you teacher critics to come in and sub for a week, then we will talk about Escalante and how we all should magically make every kid learn.

Where were his winning credentials from? He had almost zero head coaching experience. He was brought up because he was a "buddy" of one of the administration. That was a sad backdoor thing that most former Nooks that supported Coach Sokaitis and Coach Ostanik will never overlook. I won't even comment on what I have heard first hand from up on the hill. Those "sunny" days should still be shining if it wasn't for a dishonest, backstabbing administration. You know it's pretty darn bad when a lot us burned the blue and gold when this all went down. Go seawolves?!?!?!

Kind of interesting to see 2 players that enrolled in 4 year schools, transfered to Compton and are coming to UAF???? Why do you think that is?

KUDU'S what hckywtcher said about Ostanik and Sokaitis. They coached, taught young men to grow, and had successful squads. And you know what? They did it with home grown talent! I think you may want to change the name to the University of lower 48-Fairbanks.

That is crap about King making too much money. Subsistence has nothing to do about money, if it did, it just becomes another entitlement and welfare system. I see more people on welfare shopping at the stores with more money for food than I who works hard for what I have. I don't care if Jeff King makes 10 million dollars a year, he could still be a subsistence user.

What are your solutions for rural AK? I live out there also and all I see is how rural AK wants everything to be subsidized and they are entitled to help. I figure the cost of living in rural AK is expensive, but that is the price to pay for living somewhere I want to live. How about people learning how to conserve. I don't see any reasonable answer to lowering power costs in rural AK without a dam, some type of small scale nuclear power like proposed for Galena, etc. Face the facts, we live in these places because we want to and if the price of living out there is higher, so be it. I don't look for the govt. to find ways to help me out. I find ways that "I" can help myself out.

How many mistakes are you allowed to make? It is nice to see a policy, but who is going to make the schools report? Look at what happened in Galena this year. That was a travesty. You must realize that some people put more of an emphasis on basketball or sports than the well being of the kid. I just don't see this working. The honest schools will report, the others will continue doing what they do.
