Well, I have a small pack of 6 dogs. One is a purebred sheltie that I "rescued" from the breeder when he was 6 months old. He is now 14 and is a wonderfully tolerant old man. I have a year old purebred Cairn terrier that I adopted from Loving Companions. My 2 year old mutt was adopted from the pound. But the other three I bought from breeders. My 8 month old Maremma Sheepdog I bought as a livestock guardian. He is a working dog and I researched the breed and asked alot of questions before I decided to add him to the pack. The other two are Great Danes (I have a soft spot for this particular breed). Again, I knew what I was getting into with the breed and asked alot of questions. One was bought locally and the other was bought with a contract from a show breeder out of state.

It's very important to know the breed, the common genetic defects/hereditary diseases, and temperment. Ask the breeder a lot of questions. Reputable breeders will know about their breed and be able to answer any questions you may have. As previously mentioned, they will also be more particular about where their pups go. As far as which I prefer, mutt vs purebred, I don't have a preference, it all depends on the dog.

For the person who said there are no reputable Mastiff breeders in Alaska, I have to disagree. I have a friend who lives in Wasilla who breeds and shows Mastiffs, is very knowledgeable about the breed, and is a responsible breeder.

Jaybird was the "coverboy" a few years ago... Guess he never did make his connection.

Now I see what happened... Someone did cut the story and leave the most important part out. Just like they did with a couple other stories. If you want to read the whole thing, you have to look under "Alaska Headlines". Why would you put only part of the story in the main headlines portion???? C'mon editors, get with the program. I don't want to have to go to several different areas to read the full print of a story. If you're going to headline the story, then make sure it's all there!!!

Hmmm. Either someone forgot to put the rest of the story in or someone wrote a really crappy article. I'm with everyone else... How many????

"Pot doesn't cause violence (like meth, coke, crack, heroin, and alcohol). It causes peace and harmony."

That is one big load of crap!!! My ex was mean, abusive, and destructive when he smoked the stuff. Not to mention the fact that he ate over $400 worth of groceries every week when he was smoking. There was definitely no peace or harmony in our house caused by pot!
