"That tax allowance grows by a fraction of a percent each time a construction crew builds a new home, warehouse or other project."

-------
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been bailed out by the taxpayers via the bail-out package. I heard on the news it was because they gave loans to people who were not credit worthy and/or bought too much home for their income level.

Well, how many mortgage loans in the FNSB are backed by these entities? How many take out huge mortgages they know they can't afford? And just because they build new hotels, homes, and warehouses, doesn't mean new people will show up to use them. Our nation's economy is in real trouble and if anyone denies it won't effect our community....well, they aren't thinking rationally.

My point is, just because there is construction growth doesn't mean it's good for our community. Our family lives within a realistic budget based on our current monthly income. Why can't the borough do the same? We're all tightening our spending habits not expanding them. Government needs to do the same and that's why I'm voting for Proposition B.

With the economy declining we can expect more homeless people. Tent cities are popping up throughout the US:
Reno, Nevada,
Santa Barbara, Fresno, San Diego, California
Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Columbus, Ohio
Athens, Georgia

Where do you think all these displaced people are going to live? Opening a homeless shelter is only a temporary fix, at best, because the burden will be too great for the remainder of the people to bear for a long period of time.

Having known a homeless person, I can tell you she didn't want to be living on the streets. She just wanted a decent paying job so she could support herself. And, yes, our family did help her out as much as we could. Today she has job skills, has a decent job and is a productive member in our community.

We need to fix our local, state and federal government. Our economy is in shambles because too many greedy corrupt people in the government --and private sectors are only looking after their own welfare.

My suggestion is we vote ALL current politicians out of office and start electing honest ones in with TERM LIMITS. No more career politicians. Voting the bums out of office is just a start. Smarter, brighter minds than mine can solve our economy woes. We can get through this together.

OBAMA LAMENTS DEBT, BUT PROMISES BILLIONS FOR ANTI-POVERTY PROGRAM
by FOXNews.com
Friday, September 19, 2008

If elected, Mr. Obama is pledging $50 billion on a United Nations anti-poverty program. In this news article it he stated he was doing this despite our financial crisis.

Here are a few snippets from the article:

"But in December, Obama also sponsored the Global Poverty Act which, if passed, would require the president to commit to cutting global poverty in half by 2015. Critics say that would cost American taxpayers $845 billion."

"Susan Rice, one of Obama’s top foreign policy advisers, says the U.S. should give 0.7 percent of its Gross Domestic Product to developing nations."

“It goes down a bureaucratic rat-hole, lining the pockets of people who are connected to the power structure,” said Hanke, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. “It’s basically a system to redistribute income from middle class people in the United States to rich people in poor countries. It never reaches those people who are living on a dollar a day.”

Thank you, akguy, I watched the video of how they really made that popcorn pop. Sort of like discovering how they make hollywood movies...really spoils the special effects and makes watching the film less enjoyable. Guess nobodies gray matter will be popping out of their eye sockets.

I saw a cool popcorn cellphone trick on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPf8dXsZ1...

They place cellphones in a circle with kernels of popcorn in the center, then they call their cellphones and watch the popcorn "pop".

When I use my cellphone I try to use the speakerphone as much as possible. I don't want my gray matter popping out of my eye sockets.... :) (okay, that was a lousy attempt at humor...sorry.) However, I really do try to use my speakerphone.

Obama actually admitted during an interview that he is a muslim. Read about it here:

Obama's verbal slip fuels his critics

Mr. Obama noted that when Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin "was forced" to talk about her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, he issued a forceful statement to reporters that the line of inquiry was "off limits." But he said the McCain campaign tried to tie him to "liberal blogs that support Obama" and are "attacking Governor Palin."

"Let's not play games," he said. "What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come."

Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted with, "Christian faith."

"My Christian faith," Mr. Obama said quickly. "Well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim. And I think that his campaign's upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith -- something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time."

Asked to comment on the accidental misstatement illustrating the difficulty of the issue, Obama spokesman Bill Burton offered this comment: "I'm not surprised that the only outlet doing this story is The Washington Times."

I'm not wild about Obama's track record on gun control, but as president, he'll be forced to moderate his positions on more than a few issues -- gun control will be one of those. And that's why we have a system of checks and balances. And worst-case scenario, you vote against him in 2012."

"Stroke of the pen. Law of the land. Kinda cool."

~~ Clinton presidential aide Paul Begala, July 1998

Obama doesn't have to be forced into doing anything. He can sign an "executive order" that will be enforced until another acting president rescinds it.

Also, Obama co-sponsored the Global Poverty Act, which has passed the House of Representatives. If the Senate passes it, the US is committed in giving .7% of our gross national product, under United Nations criteria, so they can distribute it to impoverished people in foreign countries. That's about $845 Billion.

I believe the redistribution of our wealth is called socialism. And if you believe that it won't effect you personally because you don't make enough money to even pay taxes YOUR WRONG. It will cost every single citizen at least $2,500 and not one penny would be spent in the US to help our people fight poverty. Whether that $2,500 is taken through taxes or decreased benefits given by the government...does it really matter? We're all the poorer because of it.

Also, this bill defines millennium development goals, including a declaration committing nations to banning small arms and weapons, and ratifying several treaties, some of which are the International Criminal Court treaty and the Kyoto protocol. Please don't take my word for it, google "Global Poverty Act" and find out for yourself.

I don't want to be divisive but I would like to share what I found out about fetal pain.

------------
FETAL PAIN

YES AND BY 8 WEEKS

By 8 weeks? Show me!

By this age the neuro-anatomic structures are present. What is needed is (1) a sensory nerve to feel the pain and send a message to (2) the thalamus, a part of the base of the brain, and (3) motor nerves that send a message to that area. These are present at 8 weeks. The pain impulse goes to the thalamus. It sends a signal down the motor nerves to pull away from the hurt.

Give an example.

Try sticking an infant with a pin and you know what happens. She opens her mouth to cry and also pulls away.

Try sticking an 8 week old human fetus in the palm of his hand. He opens his mouth and pulls his hand away.

A more technical description would add that changes in heart rate and fetal movement also suggest that intrauterine manipulations are painful to the fetus. Volman & Pearson, "What the Fetus Feels," British Med. Journal, Jan. 26, 1980, pp. 233-234.

My mother once told me she hated my guts, that if abortion had been legal she would have had an abortion. Needless to say, I am soooo pro-life. I may not be significant to my mother and I'm not rich or famous so the world couldn't care less about be, but I'm glad I was given the chance to live and to contribute to life. I have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren and they love me...and that's good enough for me. ~aReader

"Conner said the results will help specialists map a plan to lower pollution, a plan that could focus on converting diesel engines to “trap” pollution, help residents swap older wood stoves for ones certified by the EPA as clean-burning, or provide incentives for public transportation."

How will this plan effect GVEA? Don't they run on diesel? Are their diesel engines EPA approved or do we have to foot the bill to convert them? A "conversion surcharge"???

Just wondering out loud. :^/
