Lizzyjane: Some of the most amazing photos I have taken were during Labor Day weekend! Good luck! BTW, our mosquitos are fairly quiet by then.

For those of you who are interested in travels in Alaska with a personal touch...one that you'll get so involved in the life of the journeyer that you'll want to read every entry since 2003 when she and her husband headed to this distant land...check out http://www.susanstevenson.com/Journal/jo.... Susan is a topnotch photographer and journalist. If you want to jump right in to today's entries, she has opened a more interactive blog at http://susanstevenson.com/blog/.
Regardless where you start, you'll end up wanting to read it all! I doubt there's many places that she hasn't visited and documented here in Alaska...at least if she could drive there, it's in her journal!

zuume19: What is a 'poma lift tower'?
We live on FWA, and I'm not sure where you're talking about when you say "they now have a garage and a covered entrance way". We do still plug in, but I've seen some of the smart outlets mentioned. Info given to us about those is still sketchy.
There is at least one post shuttle with GEIKO advertising. I don't believe it shuttles passengers off post, but I'm not sure.
I think the general's quarters will be occupied soon.

I think it could be because Elton John's in town. Wilbur Street, the main street that leads to the Carlson from Airport, is closed for construction.

Gardening has already started. We get the plants growing in our houses or greenhouses, and then move them outdoors in June. Many of us visit the local greenhouses in February and March to put in our orders for flower baskets and ornamentals. The greenhouses start our plants and have them ready for pickup on June 1. It really is beautiful to see everyone's porches 'bloom' overnight!

No, that Rainbow last night around 1100 was just that: a Magnificent, perfect rainbow! A sundog is a phenomenon we see quite often here in the winter. For more info, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog.
WOW! What a gorgeous rainbow we saw!

zekesuhl: I don't know of any real place to stay at North Pole. Everyone I've ever talked to when they come here to visit stay here in Fairbanks. Sorry I'm not helping, but I didn't see anyone else post to you.
Good luck finding a place.

There's a man talking on his cell phone while standing beside a motorcycle in the newsminer parking lot. I wonder if he's doing it for someone at 'home' to be able to see him?
Everybody WAVE BIG!

The 'HI' was actually taped on the pavement. I'll try to go by tomorrow and see if it's been taken up. If so, maybe all we're seeing is the cleaner pavement.

Coming home from the airport just a bit ago, I saw something that you hardly ever see here in Fairbanks! Wanna guess? Nope? I saw a cat by the highway! And it was a black cat to boot! Going on five years here and that's only the 3rd or 4th cat I've seen out wandering like a stray!
