Patsy, Patsy, Patsy .... where do we begin with your flawed logic? Obviously you read Kathleen Parker's column, but I don't think you got her point.

First: The message she sent is the radical Christian right is ruining the GOP. Not mainstream Christians, not liberal Christians, but the radical, evangelical Christian right, which has a way of alienating voters. You know, the sort who handle snakes, drink strychnine ... write messages on the Bible Baptist sign. You know the type.

Second: When you compare the Democratic convention to the Republican convention, it was as different Sarah Palin and Kathleen Sebelius. The Dems had fervor, spirit, a vast mix of races in the audience. The Republicans were .... old and white. (OK, mostly white. There were a few Alan Keyes types milling about)

Third: You should not refer to Tom Teepen, Maureen Dowd and Kathleen Parker as journalists. They are columnists. Big difference. Columnists are paid to write their OPINIONS.

Lastly: I can't believe you jumped on the "we're all going to socialist hell" band wagon, like so many of your Republican breathren here in Alaska like to worry about, all the while stock piling their guns and blinding saluting Wayne LaPierre. We as a nation aren't going to be any more socialist than we already are, especially here in Alaska with our government supplied PFDs and energy rebate checks. Can't get any more socialist than that.

true, true epook .... and her going may backfire on the Chambliss campaign, similar to that last little political race she decided she wanted to play in. You Betcha!

Dunno, sending Sarah down to Georgia may prove profittable for Chambliss.

Seeing how Georgia is full of the babies guns and Jesus crowd, and seeing how that is Sarah Palin's main fan base, she could easily tip the redneck Bubba vote his way.

I wish I could be as eloquent and polite as Dirk ... but I can't.

Andrew, you are, without a doubt, the biggest ass who posts here.

I would like to see you leave your home in California, come to Alaska, and tell me to my face that:

1. I am not normal
2. I am a pedophile
3. I don't deserve the same rights as everyone else because I'm gay.

I'm looking forward to the day that I can correct you of your ignorance in person, when it's so easy for you to spout off your mouth behind the anonymity of your keyboard.

Regards.

Andrew: "neocons is such a moronic term. It is very amusing that so many sophomoric intelligence level individuals are so enchanted with its use." ... but Obamabots and Obamessiah are apparently really hot words all the cool kids are using. Quick, somebody update www.urbandictionary.com

AKBOSS: I know plenty of Alaskans who don't care for Palin, and yes, they live here, believe it or not.

Somehow this has to be Obama's fault ... isn't that the neocon mantra?

So here's a question, just for a rhetorical devil's advocate sake: What's wrong with a background check or waiting period? What's wrong with having to have a license to carry a gun hidden under your coat or tucked under your belt? Why are some of you so opposed to it?

Continued from above:

I know there is a population out there who will probablly flip over this posting and tell me I'm sick and going to hell; so be it. I know I'm not. And for those of you who are so scared of us, you never know who we are because so many are in the closet because of the hate that is spread. We are you brothers and sisters, your children, your uncles aunts cousins, your plumber, your cab driver, your fuel delivery guy, you're hunting buddy, your dog mushing buddy, the deacon at your church, your best friend. We are your fellow man.

This fight is far from over. Just ask any black man or woman who marched in the Civil Rights movement. Change is slow to come, but it does come.

Thank you to Kristen Magann, the organizer, of the protest in Fairbanks.

And thank you, dear readers, for your time, whether you plan to string me up downtown and flog me or not :-)

Thanks, SlyArcticFox

WOW. When I saw this story posted in the wee hours of this morning, I knew it would be a whopper, drawing out the usually "your going to burn in hell" crowd. I'll try to keep my tone civil.

The battle against Prop 8 is about equality for all, and its truly the last great civil rights battle of our time. Take your religious beliefs out of the equation, for a moment, if you can. You have two adults on a longterm stable relationship: Why can't they be married and enjoy the same benefitis as heterosexual couples?

In response to a few posters:

Buboy said "gay...lesbian...just keep it in the basement so your relatives and friends don't have to explain it."

No, we're not going to keep it in the basement and hide it. There is no shame in being gay. Did you know, buboy, the stats for suicide among gay and lesbian teens are astronomically high? Gay teens often feel like they have no where to turn for help, and telling them to "keep it in the basement" is not the answer.

fourchords said "Well I bet Mrs. Magann wouldn't be too thrilled is they let gayness be open in the Army. Her husband would constantly be looked at while he showers among other things...." That's just too funny ... Never mind those insurgents or that roadside bomb but did you see the knew sergeant? HOT! That's just asinine, fourchords. Humourously wrong, but asinine.

witch_wendy, you offer so much material there's just too much to pin down, so I'll just say I feel sorry for you. If you live with your hate, it will consume you.

peduncle says "being gay is a lifestyle choice. stop making such a big deal over banning gay marriage. Nobody if forcing them to be gay" Well, I can guarantee you peduncle that I didn't wake up one day out of the blue and say, "Hey you know what, I think I want to be gay! What a hoot to be bashed and called names! A laughriot!" Sit and talk to any gay or lesbian; it's not a choice. We are born gay.

And yes folks, if you haven't figured it out now, I'm gay. A gay man, living and working in Fairbanks, with a longterm partner I've been with for 5 years. We pay property taxes, we support the community, we attend church. That's right -- one of the more popular well-known Protestant denominations in Fairbanks. And God hasn't smited us at his alter, although I worry more about his followers then the big man himself.

And you wouldn't know I'm gay if I didn't tell you -- I'm "butch" for all you not familiar with the term; I fish camp ski snowmachine eat moose just like the rest of you. I'm the guy in front of you in line at the coffee shop, I'm the guy you see shopping at Freds. I'm just like you. I'm not sick; I'm not perveted; I'm not going to burn in hell. I didn't choose to be gay; God made me gay.

Repeat after me:

"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."
"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."
"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."

I swear, if there was a cure for the propaganda the NRA spreads, I'd slip it in the Fairbanks water supply.
