Well into the 80's today. Ester just had their 4th of July parade. village size. Silly and fun. Now it has entered the wonderful picnic/pot luck phase with hundreds of happy folks sitting in any shade they can find, lots of squealing and happy kids. A real small town get together. Hardly anything better than that. A soft breeze today to make the 80's not feel so bad. Not a cloud in the sky, only our endless sunshine. There is no better place for summers than Alaska, and I think the summers here in the interior have to be the best on the planet. It is worth waiting the winter for, every year!

First Friday tonight as well, with the art galleries having their open houses. Lots going on at Alaskaland(Pioneer Park), with music and all. No fireworks though, we save that for New Years Eve. Plenty of darkness then, but if can be oh so cold! But we do it anyway. We know how to be happy. That is why we live here.

Happy 4th to all, and especially to those that wish they were here with us.

Exactly! Accepting the differences and opinions of each of us. That is what the day is about. We all like to think we are right in our choice of our gods, in our choice of politics, etc. And we allow for that, because we know how important it is to make room for one another in this world, and listen to and accept one another even if they are not like ourselves.

The 4th of July, the day we told the British to take a hike, that we didn't need them telling us what to do. It just is not right for a people to have some foreign overseas government coming in and telling them what to do and how to live. Unfortunately it seems we have forgotten that lesson we realized back then.

America is great, great, nation, truly showing the world that so many different people, different religions, different races, different colors, can all live together in peace. We accept our differences very easily. I know I could move to France for the rest of my life, but I would never be accepted as a 'Frenchman'. But yet a Frenchman could move here and easily be accepted as an American, even with their funny way of talking. We would accept them into our 'family' without question.

America has lost some of it's glory in the past 8 years, and we seem to have gotten a bit off track. We seem to have lost sight of the wisdom it takes to be a great nation. The understanding it takes to be a true leader. We seemed to have forgotten what our purpose is, to be a beacon and an example for others to admire. I hope that someday we can earn some respect back from the world again, and perhaps we can learn to be as accepting of the rest of the world as we are accepting of each other. Not everyone wants or needs to be like us, as we don't need to be like them. That is true independence! I hope we not only can keep our freedoms forever, but that we can be willing to allow others theirs as well. Then we will have learned and earned our way back to what we have always should have been.

This is not a day to celebrate fighting and wars, but a day to celebrate what we have fought about. The freedom to be ourselves.

Nope, not me on the Richardson highway. I live out by Ester, that is my area. About 5 miles west of the city off the highway that goes to Denali/Anchorage. I always find it amazing how all of us in the area find a place to attach ourselves to. I know I could never live in North Pole, or out Chena Hot Springs road, or in the city, or even out towards Fox, and those wonderful folks that do live out that way feel the same way about their places of choice. I guess something about the places we end up pulls on us and keeps us right there, only allowing a few miles of movement for possible places to live. We attach ourselves somehow to our 'home' area, and could not be happy anywhere else, even on the other side of town. Kinda funny how that happens to probably all of us. But I will have to look for that mailbox someday as I make a drive out that way.

Jerseyshore, no, I don't think that was me, but I wish it had been. I guess if you're ever coming back to the webcam, you will have to send a mail the day before and let us know when you will be there, so we can all join in at that moment and and shout it out. See how many people add notes during that visit! Maybe go for the 'Guinness record' of how many notices you can get in one visit. OK, synchronize your watches. Now let us know WHEN you will be there!

Well done! Kudos to those that sometimes have a thankless job. Thumbs up to those that do their best to make life livable for the rest of us.

Well this is obviously a subject I should stay away from, that's for sure. What is so sad was this entire event was 100% avoidable. It never should have happened to anyone.
