Wasn't that the plan behind AGIA? Maybe not those specific items but similar in intent for the future of Alaska?

Frankly I have a problem with people who don't seem to have anywhere else to go - why not? There are options out there - granted you have to have some kind of interest in bettering yourself - even if moving up in the world means an indoor toilet. I don't have much sympathy for them - they made their choice to not go to the rescue mission and get help getting employed, getting housing, getting something! It's like the guy on the corner who says he's an ex vet and homeless. Why doesn't he have a job to support himself - if he can stand outside all day long, can't he stand inside walmart all day long and get paid for it? I think most homeless are just that because they either are mentally ill or they choose to be there because no one expects anything of them. I'm sorry if that seems harsh but I work very hard so my family won't be homeless, so I can provide for myself even after I can't work anymore. Maybe they just don't want to be responsible for anything more than their next bottle of booze...

Once again it's us (the bloggers, joe q public) that has ideas for solutions - the hurdle is getting it made into law...
Step 1: THE IDEA
Step 2: start a petition
Step 3: forward said petition to local representative
Step 4: local rep creates a bill & forwards to the legislature
Step 5: legislature submits bill to the governor for approval
Step 6: bill gets approved - idea in practice

Now please tell what I'm missing!!! It would take someone with alot of disposable time to constantly push the thing all the way thru to law.

I've been commenting on this site for a short while - the thing that comes to mind the most is that this is a forum to discuss the problems. That, however, is not enough - we can discuss things all we want but the hurdle is getting the things discussed either approved or passed on up the chain of command for the state. How we go from just talk to actually making it happen is the problem. There are so many different steps to take to actually get something to the legislature that you'd have to devote a significant amount of your life to trying to get the item in question put into effect. When you look at the details for getting our changes put into effect it's totally daunting. Maybe one of the things we should thing about is how to streamline that process...

It takes being a 'parent' to put the needs of your own child above your own. I thought about homeschooling but decided to go public school when I realized I cannot support the family and be a stay at home teacher too. I can take what public schools teach and add on top of that to try to get my child to be a well rounded person. I say take the positives of each and become knowledgeable about the things you believe to be negative about each so that you can mitigate the effect on the child. There is no one right way to teach a child but as long as you're an involved parent you have the most opportunities to guide them.

I dislike the idea of Conoco/BP still trying to sidestep the AGIA process, I think Gov Palin had the right idea with focusing on the 'must haves' from the oil companies, it rankles to think that Big Oil is trying to undermine our governor. Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong....

Is there a particular reason why they don't let you start the veh? I've always wanted to go to an auction but I want something that runs, I'm sure you can't get a refund if it doesn't start. Sounds like an extreme example of 'buyer beware'. Do they tell you it was running before it was impounded?

Kasey - thank you for putting it all into perspective - It's depressing to think about how right you are. I don't know anything about economics - All I really want is to retire in 28.5 years with enough money to support myself & husband (If I don't permanently retire him first) and help our children if possible. I want to live green, I believe it's necessary but I will also admit to being a very dependable consumer too. I have no idea how to fix the problems within our government, I vote based on how the canditates answer questions - honestly or wishywashy. All I want is to earn enough money to put food on the table with enough left over so I don't have to worry about unexpected expenses, maybe if I simplified my lifestyle I could get there faster. I don't know.....

On Keep spending!
