TAC, *occasionally* there's an interesting new tidbit to chew on. :)

It's interesting, cause I think "...nothing warmer than something knit with love..." is a purposefully Velveeta tongue in cheek comment that (hopefully) has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with making fun of my knitter friends (including my husband). ;)

Err and I think I was trying to say I try NOT to judge people by their hobbies. :) Even people whose hobbies are hanging out on the DNM website and commenting on stories. Hah.

I'm not sure what your point was...I just thought I'd comment that they were nice folks. :)

Hey! That's my mom and a bunch of my friends! Yay Fiberistas! IUR, these folks are some of the most interesting and fun people I know - and I am SO not a knitter! I try to to judge people by their hobbies.
NxC, my mom (Barbara) has knit most of the socks I wear, including the ones I have on today and it's true - nothing is warmer than something handknit with love.
Also, April, if you or your husband read this article, can you please please send me my muffalos and scarf? :) I loooooove you!

CPW, I was commenting solely on Alaska Executive Branch ethics rules (that I have now gone to look up: http://www.law.state.ak.us/pdf/ethics/et...), which state:
Sec. 39.52.120. Misuse of official position
(a) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain, and may not intentionally secure or grant unwarranted benefits or treatment for any person.
The other part that is likely important is in the same section, following B)6:
(A) means having the intent to differentially benefit or harm a
(i) candidate or potential candidate for elective office; or
(ii)political party or group;
Regardless of my opinion of the politician involved, I don't feel informed on the issue at hand to make qualified comments about the validity of the complaint. I frankly haven't been watching Palin interviews!

Hmmm. AK_WDB, I think that the executive branch ethics rules say officials can’t use state resources to help or hurt a current or potential political candidate. It seems pretty clear.

As for the asinine HIV=Gay Plague argument you propose, 1AkFox, please, PLEASE educate yourself and the people around you before someone gets hurt.
"AIDS (a result of HIV infection) is caused by HIV, a virus that can infect people regardless of sexual orientation. HIV can infect anyone who has sexual or blood-to-blood contact with an HIV-positive person. The virus can infect men, women and children. Men who have sex with men or women and women who have sex with men or women are at risk if their partners have HIV infection."
Correct and consistent use of latex (or polyurethane if allergic to latex) condoms, however, greatly reduces the risk of transmission.
In many countries, the numbers of women with HIV are nearly equal to the numbers of infected men, and the number of women with HIV/AIDS continues to steadily increase worldwide. As of July 2002, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimated that about 18 million women were living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, accounting for 47 percent of the 37.2 million adults living with HIV/AIDS.
In many countries, HIV spreads mostly through sex between men and women. And in the United States, the number of people with HIV/AIDS who became infected through sex between men and women continues to grow."
