Wow,

What do you say after something like that? Does that mean that since Bill Clinton has millions of dollars invested in the Chinese Government owned Xinhua Finance Media Ltd., that he is a bad man to? Or is the hatred confined only to one party/administration?

Dude, you need some meds. All that hatred is going to burn you up.

Taft is a Federal Correctional Center that is run by a private prison contractor (MTC). MTC run prisons are know for disturbances, riots, and escapes. Hope he gets the full experience.

Well Niceguy, Jay, unlike the Majority of the Legislators, or even the Governor, actually visited a facility in the last week. He saw with his own eyes what only the few people who have bothered to listen have heard. And it obviously made an impression.

The Alaska DOC has already been under the Courts thumb once (Cleary Final Settlement) for the tune of of millions of dollars. Joe's leadership of the Department is setting it up to be under injunction. If you think Corrections is expensive now, wait until the court gets into it again.

This fight did not have to be public. It was Schmidt who decided to leave the table and stop communicating with the Union, though he claims publicly it was the other way around.

As far as the Governor solving anything, she had the opportunity. She chose to ignore the union when they asked her for help. Then she threw her "unconditional support" behind Schmidt when 500 members of a 700 member union publicly told her that there were serious problems.

I almost took out a Fairbanks cyclist yesterday when she blasted across Nobel against a red light. Middle of the road, never even looked left or right. Fortunately for that future Darwin Award winner, I was able to go from 25 to zero fast enough to not make her a hood ornament.

This isn't an Alaska problem, nor is it new. The sanitation services for many of the cities out east were controlled by the Mafia for years. It was/is the perfect scam. All you have to do is mandate it for a given area, award the contract to an exclusive company (only they get to collect the trash from that area), and charge people whether they use the service or not. You pay off the garbage men, and the rest of the money goes to wherever.
Its a sweet setup. People have to pay it, and you've got the local government playing collector on those that wish not to use the service. And there is nothing the little guy can do about it, after all, when was the last time you voted on it?
I'm not saying the Mob is alive and well, and running the Sanitation companies up here, but you can see how an enterprising individual can make a bit of extra coin as the money collected above the contract price gets dumped into the "general fund" and goes to wherever.
