Knowledge of Native Elders predicted climate change before it had a name. The declining permafrost has changed our lives in rural Alaska. If the scientists had any sense they would have asked for a more open world of knowledge available to them. We are seeing things here in the Koyukuk that will never be the same again, and there are no answers to questions they pose at the conference. They have good intentions but know very little.

I think only democrats will move forward on promises to this state, because republicans have proved they can do nothing. It's time for a change.

The senators in Alaska also are a part of this problem, and they have no problem looking the other way and saying let's develop somewhere else so we can make more money. The hell with the locals, let's rape the land for more money for the good oil people who want to keep taking resources with no consequences. We have reaped what we have sown, so live with it and keep voting in high paid officials owned by big oil. It will never change. Thanks

I have yet to see one fishery in the world that is doing well. There is something going on in the oceans. There has been dumping of salmon, no doubt it does the fishery no good, but there is something much worse out there. Where are all the fish going, and will this continue? The runs may only get worse no matter if we stop fishing all together, and right now it's going to be hard for us to pull our nets when we have not caught a single fish on the Koyukuk yet. But we will do what is right, and limit what we catch because it makes sense. We need to at least try and save a run for the future, whatever future it is that comes. Maybe the fall chum run will be good, no one knows, but I doubt it.

Although I have great respect for other beliefs, I don't follow their prophecy or any others beliefs. We have our own here in Alaska and they do not match any other on earth. No matter if other beliefs are derived from this continent or one to the south, they are theirs. So they can believe what they want, as well as other religions, we'll keep what we believe here. The earth will change, there is no doubt about that, and even in the western science world view, but how and where in the Native American world is context specific. They can have thier ways, we will have ours. And you can have yours.

I can see Suomi and Buboy are of the same mind that the earth is still flat. Yes, man has caused this change, our traditional knowledge supports the agruement that it is man that is the cause of these changes, and we will pay for making them, now and more later. It does not matter if we are in a ice age at the moment, and we do not feel the impacts of it, because we have so screwed up this planet so badly it will never be the same again. If it's just money we are concerned about like Murkowski and Stevens then we have no problem, we are already screwed. And why is it that only Murkowski has the courage to speak, and Stevens just mumbles in the background? Anyway, go ahead and fight as you must, nothing good will come from any arguements until sound science, in every form including our Native ways of knowing, catches up with our planet, sometime in the next decade I hope.

Someone from a nearby village says that we need to take care of this problem ourselves. Not sure how but it sounds good. I think he was a little arrogant, it's a bit more than people out here can just take care of ourselves. Because it will not just be energy that will cost us more than we can pay, it's also going to be food and other needs. There may be little we can do out here in rural Alaska to reduce gas costs, but we are going to have to try. It's best not to expect government to take care of us, but for some reason they have enough to take care of other countries like Iraq, but not our own. What government and politicians do we have representing us anyway, they are all owned by big oil, or foriegn oil companies. We could work together on these problems, rural and urban Alaskans, but who will be the first to act? And I don't think pumping local oil will solve any problem, maybe delay it but it will not solve a world crisis.

I really am not concerned with who caused it, just what are we going to do with climate change now. There isn't much point in blame, we need to adapt as we can. Nothing is the same out here anymore. The plants are confused and so are the animals. If we slow climate change maybe that's all we can hope for, because we are beyond the threshold of reversing it. Nature will do that itself. There was never anything easy about living in rural Alaska, but our culture will change with climate change, so we best learn all we can for our future generations. Thanks

Ted Stevens is no longer useful to people from this State. He did his best to bring home the pork while he could, but he is corrupt and made his money off of us. From day one he was bought by big oil, and the Native people are not intellectual enough to know they have been had by him. We have no hunting and fishing rights. He made sure we did not have any rights and gave it to rural people, no matter who they are. A common criminal in a village has as much rights as those of us practicing our culture as best we can. All he left is a way for big oil to keep taking from us, until they have it all, resources and our lands. Anybody other than Ted in office is fine with me, he is corrupt and arrogant, and big money owns his soul.

Stevens should be charged for his crimes and so should Bush for war crimes. Those supporting him should also be punished for war crimes.
