I should have bought a house on Chena Hot Springs rather than North Pole!! Right now the temperature at my house is colder than the number one coldest place on that Weather extremes website!
I wonder why we love this place so much when it's like this. Come summer solstice and we will all remember. :)

Jessica,
I believe the problem with this letter is the wandering subject. Decide if the main point of your letter is going to be insufficiently clothed young'uns, or neglected children in drug ridden homes. I too, am a young mom. I am 23 with two kids and this greatly offended me.
Please don't generalize. You know that old saying... something about "To assume"... and "you and me." Oh gee, I forgot the punch line, but I know it was a good one.
Please keep in your mind that all under clothed children are not neglected. Also, your prior experiences with child neglect stemmed from drug abuse. Not young parents.

Roadtrip and BigDan,
You are using other unethical examples to change the subject. Are you denying that paying per diem to someone when they are at home is unethical? Especially considering Alaska's current economical situation.
All you are clarifying by bringing up other issues is that Sarah Palin isn't really the "fresh face" all the republicans touted her to be, but that she's just like every other major politician out there who has done something irrefutably unethical.

If this were Murkowski doing all this, not your beloved Sarah, you would all be singing a very different tune. While the state budget is suffering because of the steadily declining cost of a barrel fuel, Sarah is living large. Mr. Grundy brings up a very valid point. Not only is it unethical, it is comparable to the self serving actions of former Govenor Murkowski.
Of course Sarah wanted to move her office closer to home. Being a full time mom and a full time govenor clashed, so in a most Murkowski-like manner, she made the state she's "serving" work for her. (note: I use that word loosely) A lawyer can make anything justifiable, but if you take everything a lawyer says to heart you've got some problems of your own.

When people say "I am ok with a legal union, but marriage is between a man and a woman." it is just a less controversial way to oppose gay marriage without seeming close minded.
If you search the word Marriage 10 defenitions come up. Who are you to interpret someone's use of the word marriage?

Thats weird. I drove through right after it happened and the lights were going. I was coming toward town on Farmer's Loop. We all took a right onto Ballaine then hung a U-ey into the merge lane to get around, but the lights were working. I didnt see if they were timed correctly but they were changing from green to red. My thoughts are with the family. Be safe, everyone, brakes aren't our friends today.

Govenor Palin fits right in there with Ted Stevens and Don Young. I have very little respect for her and it shrivels more and more every day. Subpeonas are not subjective. That is the point that the DNM is making here.

I am not disagreeing about dressing kids for cold weather. Not in the least. My point is that Jessica is mistaken to assume that kids walking around with unzipped coats and no gloves need to be investigated by DFYS. A majority of these kids are in loving, healthy homes, and all an investigation would do is cause unnecessary hurt.
Now, if we are talking about the kids who are underdressed because their parents are addicted to drugs, that is a totally different subject and should be addressed in a totally different letter to the editor. As is the current state of the DFYS in Alaska. Focus your letter Jessica and you might get across to alot more people.
