Hello ArticCammers!
Oh me, look how pretty Fairbanks is!! Gosh, I would love to be there about now before it gets really really cold! Haven't seen the cam in a few days and look what I missed!! A naked guy with his dogs? How funny would that be. Gosh I can attest to some of the drunks around town. I stayed in the Marriot in June and behind the hotel on the South Side (I think it was south, I was SO turned around there) there is this bar that has an open door I think 24/7 and ooh me the drunks do lolligag around that place. But that doesn't stop me from loving Fairbanks.

Harriet, your turn to be in Fairbanks is just around the corner. I'm so envious with you going at Christmas time. That would be so neat to go at Christmas. And we ate at Lavells(sp.?) couple of times while we were there. It was very good.

Arrgh!! Our No.1 Sooner football team lost to TEXAS. And also the Dallas Cowboys lost again! What is going on here anyway? Even though I live in Oklahoma, I am a super Dallas Cowboys fan. We all are around here.

It was 86 degrees here today, and gasoline is a cheap $2.85. Can't complain too much. But even with the warm temps, the trees are beginning to turn anyway. We have really cool evenings and mornings.

Kingfisher, my husband is going to Colorado soon for his elk hunt. Those elk can't be found close by so he better get one or else.ha And then he gets back just in time for deer (I think muzzleloader?) This is his giddy time of the year. Starts acting like a kid around Christmas. ha Guess you're just sitting back and living off your hunts. I would like to try moose chili. That sounds yummy. BTW how much daylight is there in Fairbanks now.

Everyone have a nice week ahead. Must get ready for Monday morning at the office. The snow is gorgeous! Everyone enjoy!!

Good morning everyone! What a BEAUTIFUL scene there in Fairbanks! It looks like a Christmas postcard! I know that all of us couldn't wait for the first measurable snow in Fairbanks. I just can't imagine how great it would be to be there now. Maybe before it gets so cold.

Elizabeth, thanks so much for the link to Susan's website. That girl is so talented with her writings and photography. I had looked at her site before, but it's been a while and didn't know how to get back to it.

All of us that are having warm to hot days can certainly appreciate this webcam even more. And any of you in Fairbanks that want to show us your snow pictures, that would be appreciated too.

Kingfisher, I think it is amazing that you headed for Alaska as soon as you got out of the military. Smart guy you are! And you were never even stationed in Alaska, were you. Had you even been to Alaska before you moved there? BTW my daughter and son-in-law were in Okinawa from '95 to '98. I went over there in '96 when my grandson was born.

Well I'm going shopping today. Whee!! Not really. Just have to pick up a few things, so I better run for now.

Everyone up there enjoy the snow and the beautiful scenery!

Good morning everyone and how exciting for the first snow in Fairbanks! Did anyone predict the date correctly? The cam says overcast, so I guess I missed it snowing. Bummer! Oh well, prolly couldn't see it really well anyway. Course this is just the beginning for snow galore in Fairbanks.

To Kingfisher! Thanks so much for the trip report. My husband really got a kick out of your 14 days down the river and then finally getting your moose close to your house. He said that sounds like some of his hunting trips. He is in a Sportsman Club that leases tens of thousands of acres of land all over Oklahoma. And after all that money he spends for the privilege of hunting that land, plus the gasoline and running around all over the state, he comes back around here and gets his deer about 10-20 miles from here. lol However, in all fairness, he can only shoot trophy buck at some of the leased land, which are sometimes hard to find. But he said he would love to go down that river with you sometime. What a trip that must be! By the way, you're a Marine,eh? My son-in-law is a Marine, and just about your age. You guys were in about the same time. Where were you stationed? He was a pilot, but now is in the Reserves and is an aviation instructor at NAS Corpus Christi and a pilot for AA. He is also an AVID outdoorsman and is in heaven with all the great fishing and hunting around the Corpus Christi area. (South Texas) Does moose taste anything like deer or elk? And how about caribou. I can cook deer one hundred different ways and I usually have to in order to please my family.(lol)

Tomatoman, yes, we have snow here, but usually not very much at a time. That is rare. I live in Southern Oklahoma (100 miles due north of Dallas Texas) and I know where Talihina is. That is beautiful country there. And especially this time of the year. Did you say you live in Missouri?

Joy- no I don't live in Colorado, That is just where my husband goes to hunt elk. My sister has a summer home in Westcliffe. Have you been there? I love Colorado!

Well snow is a long way from Oklahoma. It is supposed to be high 80's -low 90's today. OU football is in full swing, and it's almost too hot to play. Hopefully OU will win big tonite and be #1 since USC got beat.
Well, I have a day full of chores. I'm like Harriet, no time, much work! I would LOVE to be in Fairbanks.
Hope everyone enjoys their week-end!

Hello everyone! Wow! Snow for Fairbanks? I don't think I'm quite ready for snow yet. But it will be nice to look at it on the webcam.hehe Are the winters in Fairbanks very similar from year to year. For instance, here in Oklahoma, if we have a "severe winter" we will have snow and maybe temps in the teens for a week or two. But in Fairbanks it always snows in the winter. Maybe the temps are what distinguishes the severe winters from normal winters. Just curious.

KINGFISHER! Where are you?? I've been waiting for a trip report from your hunting trip. Tell us all about it. I would love to tell my husband too. He's gearing up for the hunting season around here. But he only hunts deer, elk in Colorado, and quail. He has quail dogs and that is probably his favorite sport. His dogs are awesome!

It may be Fall officially here, but it is like summer. Suppose to be in the low 90's this week-end. Think we will have a cool down spell next week. It sure looks cold in Fairbanks!

Has everyone that has soldiers from Wainwright heard from them. My grandson tells his mom that he is actually having a pretty good time right now in Kuwait. He loves associating with some of the Australian troops that are there. Said he is just now able to decipher what they are saying.(lol)

Everyone in Fairbanks, hope it snows for you. Have a great week-end
everybody!

Hello everyone! It's nice in Oklahoma today. In the low 80's which is cool for us. But there definitely is a hint of fall in the air, because the nights and mornings are really cool. My grandson Josh, that is at Ft Wainwright, will leave on Sunday around 10 am, I think.(sigh) I first started looking at this cam when he arrived in Fairbanks December 2007. It was SO cold and snow galore and I thought oh my gosh, he will never survive that weather.(ha) But he loved it and still does. And I have been addicted to this cam ever since.
Three of the soldiers that were killed in the recent helicopter crash in Iraq were from Oklahoma(one was from a small town about 30 miles from here). The other four were from Texas. What a tragedy!
Kingfisher, welcome back home. Hope your trip was successful! And I really enjoyed all the moose stories. Polarmark's was hilarious. I will never eat nacho cheese doritoes without thinking of that darn moose.
Falltime in Fairbanks looks beautiful, I WILL be there in the fall maybe next year hopefully. Prayers to all the military families and their precious ones.
Everyone have a great week-end!
Caroline

To Armydad, gloribee (and I know there are others)-Thinking of all of you during this emotional time and historic day. I am presently watching footage of reporters at Fairbanks on the news awaiting the deployment ceremony. This will be the first deployment for my grandson, Josh, but he seems confident in his training and comrades. Like Sarah Palin said about her son: "He has been trained well and is ready for the tasks ahead." God bless all our troops and the families involved!
kathylovesalaska, glad to hear from you again. Bet you had an awesome summer.

bkpro, Couldn't help but be a little amused at your comments about what you see in the webcam. Once you see Fairbanks, that ArticCam will take on a whole new meaning. At least that is the way it was for me. I had it all pictured one way and believe me it was NOT the way I had pictured it. It is such a neat place and you will fall in love with Fairbanks and the surrounding area. And the people are just wonderful! Just can't say enough about the place. The area around those "structures" is where the Visitors Center with all the info you will ever need is and where a lot of the action was in Fairbanks in the summer. And we stayed in the Marriot(another "structure")lol straight ahead in the ArticCam. But you'll just have to see for yourself. You will love it!

Good morning everyone! Looks like daybreak is just beginning there. Gotta get acclimated to the dark earlier there. I can't imagine what the dark days of winter could be like in Alaska. I remember talking to the people in Fairbanks when I was there in the summer and they just shrug it off as no big deal. And I'm sure it's not for them. Just don't think I could handle all the dark hours of the day. But I would like to be there for maybe a week or two in the winter. I could handle that for sure. Gotta see that aurora!
Oklahoma is supposed to get a lot of hurricane "Ike" weather the end of this week-end into early next week. Lots and lots of rain and wind coming here. Corpus Christi and Port Aransas Texas are two of my favorite cities to vacation in the summer, and it appears they may be in the path of this thing. Hope all stay safe down that way and damage is minimal.
It's gonna be sad to look at the Articcam and realize that my grandson isn't going to be there for a year. His deployment ceremony is tomorrow. He leaves around the 18th. Think Palin is gonna speak tomorrow for them at Ft. Wainwright. That will be neat! But I know that I will still check in every day here no matter. \
Well I'm at work and taking advantage of the time here. lol Everyone have a wonderful day!

Hi everybody! Fairbanks looks cooler and a little more like fall instead of summer.

The FudgePot has delicious fudge that's for sure, BUT they also have marvelous soups and sandwiches. That place is addicting ! We stayed right across the street at the Marriot and the Fudgepot was oh so convenient! And I ate some of the best ice cream ever in Fairbanks! Bet that's why there is so much eaten there.

Harriet, I'm really envious of your December trip up there. I would love to see that place around Christmas. Do you alternate your trips there with summer and winter or do you just go at Christmas. I hope it's just a rumor that the lights won't be on. That would be so diappointing.
To all the ones that will be affected by the hurricanes, please stay safe and my prayers will be with you. Good evening everyone!

Kathy and Grant, I agree with TimeshareVon. I have enjoyed your blogs traveling thru Alaska. What a great way to spend your summer! You really photographed so well the spectacular scenery and I too love that Red Fireweed. You guys seem to really appreciate all those beautiful flowers. Best of luck to you as you wind your way back home. Thanks so much for sharing!!
