This stinks of politics.

Gee are tutors held up to the same outlandish standards as "approved no child left behind teachers". If so I guess Alaska cannot use the increase in tutor ploy. However, I am not a teacher and am interested in: what sly ways the 6 other states used to escape no child left behind upset them most? Also, what can they learn from the tactics used to get needed exemption can help them to get exemption in the future?

Is it not right that tonight on "NBC News Nightly" they talked about offshore drilling in other places save for Alaska? Just ads to the persona that Alaska is not among the lower forty-eight.

Great spread the word..."Fairbanks residents, they said, may drop off manageable doses of waste paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans or old newspapers — items many Fairbanks residents have either trashed or stashed in the absence of a comprehensive recycling program." But what are reasonable amounts? Is the program truly worth the carbon cost of shipping stuff to Washington? If so then why doesn't the city do the same thing?

Fairbanks needs a recycling program, why do we have to depend on Walmart!

My personal opinion is Alaska needs more support for technical colleges. Many students, native and non-native, drop out because the "introductory" courses such as chemistry, advanced mathematics, etc. are not in tune with the way an individual thinks or learns. Also, if not taught right it is hard to see the relevancy of such courses. Like trying to tell a child they need to brush their teeth. Thus, in such courses many students do poor, get discouraged, and sadly drop out. For example, many people are interested in wildlife or wildlife management, but get discouraged by "introductory" courses and give up. I am not saying that "introductory" courses are not important, but if we want to encourage learning in the broader view more streamline programs might offer more opportunities for the future of our young ones.

If Stevens is really serious about his statement: "“We can no longer afford to be at the mercy of OPEC,” Stevens said. “This bill advances true energy independence, redirecting billions of American dollars away from OPEC and toward alternative energies made possible through the responsible development of our own available natural resources.”

Then why not introduce a bill for alternative energy and help Alaskans lessen their oil addiction. The use of oil will always be necessary, but its use could be reduced. Each little bit counts especially at these prices.
