Dr. Butler, What's the bad news about getting older? Seems like the best thing to do. As they say 'It sure beats the alternative!'

Hey Guy, Bet it isn't +25C in Hampshire, wondering if it will cool off here tonight or stay too hot to go out...
Is sister Lyndy still in Central? Thanks for checking in so early in your morning. Don't get too homesick ;-}

Would be great if all the Denali Park search updates had a time on them. The latest with a time on it indicates no luck locating them after the cell phone contact. Hope it was not a cruel hoax... Guess we need to read 'reunited' before we can believe they are truely found.

The story just came on line that the two women are alive and well. Great News! Getting a helicopter ride out of the Denali Park area where they were found.

Alaskan 4 Ever,
The Northward building still stands over between Noble and Lacey; 3rd and 4th Ave., as it has for nearly 6 decades. It is off camera blocked by the Church. The dark building is the Key Bank building where The First National Bank of Fairbanks used to be at 2nd and Cushman. Key bank also extends into the area that had the old dental office overlooking the Chena River at First and Cushman.

Army 'Bases'? When did the Army stop calling them 'Posts'?. In Fairbanks 'On Base' used to mean Eielson, as in Eielson Air Force Base; 'On Post' meant on Fort Wainwight. Has the Fort Wainwright PX (Post Exchange) changed its name to BX?

Kiddo, Thanks for the link! First photo was the Nordale Hotel with tons of memories attached. Was the Birch Hill ski lodge shown later, the new one you were there to build, or a last sighting of the old?

Tammy, Our summer birthdays get Hot Lick's cakes, but your idea of the almond/fruit cake should travel much better.
The Farmers' Market has become a popular spot in their new location near the peat pits on College Rd. Can't wait until this year's carrots are for sale. Fairbanks grown carrots have the best flavor you'll find anywhere!
Keep cool, it's going to be a warm one today!

FlaPalms, Have you seen "Ice Age the Meltdown"? The Mammoth depicted in the movie is about as close as you will come to a Mastodon, the smaller less hairy relative of elephants. They were sucessfully eradicated by humans in one of our earlier attempts at making a species extinct. Miners hydralicing the hills around Fairbanks used to find some frozen in the permafrost. One calf is now at the museum. Fortunately it was recognised and salvaged before being washed down the creek with the rest of the hillside. Have never heard Miganut's rumor, so don't worry. You can even buy bottled water if the comments have turned you off drinking local water.
Come and Enjoy!

Good Day to all the Arctic Cammers! Enjoying this great ground soaking rain; it is perfect Fair Weather. Good timing for the Salcha Fair just down the Richardson Highway past Eielson AFB.
It may seem cool and dreary, but when I look at the WildFires photo dated June 29, 2004, I can appreciate how wonderful it is to have rain cleaned air filling our lungs. What a difference 4 years makes!
The wild raspberries, blueberries and others will be doing great in this summer's weather.
Happy weekend all!
