Poor journalism

To the editor:

I am disappointed in the mainstream media’s pattern of following The New York Times and whatever they send out to everyone. The so-called “journalists” have attacked Gov. Palin’s small-town origins, her husband, her teenage daughter, her hairdo and her lipstick. Rarely do they recognize accomplishment.

Local media especially should have figured it out by now that Sarah Palin is a strong governor, a working mother and a proven reformer. We can be proud of Sarah and her record, no matter how much mud they sling.

The trouble is that much of the so called mud are FACTS. Facts that do not reflect well on Sarah Palin and her capability to be Governor of Alaska, let alone Vice President of the United States.

We want politicians who don't use their office for personal gain or to follow personal agendas inappropriate for the office. We want leaders with management skills that we would rate as good or better, not poor. We want leaders that don't lie to the public, that aren't hypocrites. Leaders that don't follow claims of open and transparent government with secret emails, cover-ups and refusals to obey lawful subpoenas.

In short, many of us no longer want Sarah Palin as our elected leader.

Too akpat, and all the other Palin bashers... Obviously she has made a National impression to even be considered, or chosen as a VP candidate... Of course she may not hold your views, but from all the blogs I have read, no one does... As for Palin, I am willing to cut her some slack as she has done some things here at home that many have promised and none have delivered. In my opinion she has earned our patience if not your support. She has enough to deal with without being back-stabbed at home...

    To those who favor Obama,

I didn't like McCain (and was "torn" between voting for him and not voting at all until Sarah came along). You may be right about McCain but I think you're wrong about Obama. With all of the flaws that McCain (and, for that matter, Palin) have, I think the McCain/Palin Ticket is the better choice.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see who wins (and who is upset by that). The difference, I think, will be that I will just be upset if Obama wins whereas you all will be shouting "foul" or "Voter Fraud" if McCain & Palin win...

Librul Mainstream Media is a myth. Most of the News Media has been gobbled up by a few Neo Con Conglomerates, who in turn are owned and or operated by Israeli entities or individuals. They in turn are paid billions of American Taxpayer dollars a year to lie, deceive and manipulate news to paint a rosie picture of the Neo Con policies and actions while stifling and refusing to print anything negative of them. Propaganda.
Alaska has shown its amount of education in electing our "Pitbull with Lipstick".. From the failure of even the soft Couric interview to the failure of her debate with Biden, her die hard supporters show what amount of education they had.
Conflict of Interest and Collusion has been legalized by the Neo Con Parasites infesting the Executive Branch and the equally Corrupt Legislative Branch and they're yanking hundreds of billions of American Taxpayer dollars from programs benefitting the vast majority of Americans and, instead, are giving the same monies to their Corporate Pimps, the rich and super rich and themselves. Comprised of 1-5% of Americans. Taxation Without Representation!
A, up to 53-54 trillion American Taxpayer dollar deficit, in direct and indirect costs, was and is foisted on us by the Neo Con led Republican Party. We're mired down in a country with no ties to 9/11 that cost up to 3 trillion borrowed dollars, in direct and indirect costs. I'd bet most of the deficit and the Vietnam, Oops, I mean Iraqi War monies are safe in the Neo Con Parasites offshore accounts.. Like Halliburton.. Meanwhile Afghanistan is exploding.. And where is Bin Laden and al-Qaeda?
Remember, Americans had the Revolutionary War because of Taxation Without Representation, against a King George, his hired Mercenary Armies and few American supporters called Tories.
We have again, another King George, who put hisself above the law and accountable to no one, with his many signing statements,, With his Neo Con Cronies hired Mercenary Armies, masquerading as "Contractors", and the Neo Con Parasites, Republican Mushrooms who are kept in the dark and fed feces by the Neo Con News Media, and the Religious Idiots who are trying to ram their morphed version of Christianity down our throats... They comprise the 11-21% of Americans supporting our King Pinocchio(Pathological Liar and Pathological Failure), and Shotgun Cheney(Shotgunned his buddy while intoxicated).
When it comes down to brass tacks and technicalities... It's called Treason!
But we won't call it that will we??? We'll just bleat like the sheep we are whenever the Neo Con Parasites mention... Bin Laden and al-Qaeda..
Yep you can paint whitewash on a turd, but in the end, it's still a turd!

Brashmonkey, I agree that some state affairs need to be settled or absolved, but to go after her so hard, right now, appears to be no more than political undermining. And, as I stated she has earned better from us... Let her get through the election. One way or the other, then chew her a little if you have the balls...

If you mean, to ask her questions that a vice head of state ought to have solid answers to and solid evidence to support her theories and claims, then I think she deserves everything she is getting. She has applied for the job and is undergoing the interview process with 300 million employers. Should it be easy? Hell no! Should she provide direct, honest, on-topic answers to softball questions from Gibson, Couric and Hannity? You bet! If I were interviewing for a job and I answered a question from my potential employer in a less-than-truthful or evasive manner, I expect them to pick up on that and probably hold it against me. Instead I am gainfully employed having been truthful in the answers I was asked throughout my interviews. I guarantee you my employers appreciate the fact they can trust me.

Yes Brashmonkey, She has had to acheive the status she is at on her own merit, and in my opinion she has gotten more processes started and more results than the last 4 govenors we have had...
She has distinguished herself as a leader and maybe one of the reasons us Alaskans like her so well is that she has not been corrupted or biased by negative controversy, but has held her ground in the face of polotics...
In my opinion she has held herself up Well... Would you like to explain yourself to her face???

The media digs up the dirt because they are not offered anything else to talk about. The McCain handler's refuse to allow real press conferences for Ms. Palin. Her friends and family are only allowed to speak to vetted press. So the media looks for their own story line, i.e. bridges, aircraft sales, over-priced sports complexes, etc.

As I have said before, given direction, the press will look under the rocks you point too. If you don't give them hints, they look under all the rocks. Since the McCain/Palin camp treat the press with contempt, the press reciprocated.

If I knew then what I have know now - I would not have voted for her two years ago. And I can't vote for her now because of what we have learned - or, what her handler's have let us learn. She is not an independent maverick, she is a sheep following orders.

As Will Rogers said, "It is not what we don't know that hurts, it is what we know that ain't so."

    Sure.

I'd point out I was dissatisfied with her explanation of her foreign policy credentials which she suggested she has earned since AK shares borders with Russia and Canada and heads of state often fly over Alaska (!!). She also implied she has some participation in interceptions of Russian aircraft that fly near US territory (a patently false claim).

She speaks about Pakistan when asked about Iran.

She can't bring herself to concede that Cheney is full of crap in asserting the VP is not part of the Executive Branch, and indeed, himself invokes executive privilege from time to time.

Bravado about an agreement does not mean a gas line is going to be built, nor will drilling offshore or in ANWR solve our oil supply-and-demand woes.

"[Looking at yourself in the mirror and considering,] what would a maverick do?" is a vacuous strategy for policy decisions foreign or domestic, or for any decision for that matter.

Palin seems to have trouble being honest with the American public, and that belies trouble being honest with ones self.

Now that the McCain campaign has designated Gov. Palin as the mud-slinger for the campaign, you can expect her popularity to dwindle and the media to be even harsher in their treatment of her.

I agree that the current state of affairs are not desireable. But, I will still choose to accept the lesser of two unknown evils... How the Democratic party could place all of their faith in a questionable background is beyond me, other than they have the house and senate and are now trying too buy the whitehouse... To who's end???

outtatowner, your suggesting my legitimate complaints constitute whining on the scale shown by Ms Ewig suggests you are a Republican goose-stepper. Please note that prior to your asking if anyone had jobs, I assert that I do (in the same post I succinctly provide some support to the media for doing their jobs).

Realdeal, your insistence on misspelling my handle and your insinuation that I am not Alaskan along with your desperate and racist attempt to compare Obama to Muslim terrorists suggest you are indeed frightened. As to buying the White House, purchasing votes has a long tradition stretching well into the British Parliamentary system on which ours is based. If you believe that all votes are purchased, then I'd say the Republicans do more of the buying: Of the last 14 years, Repubs have controled the House for 12, the senate for 11, and the White House for 8.

I guess you never heard about Bush's Saudi financiers when he fashioned himself an oilman. First with Arbusto, then again with Harken Energy. Then during George HW Bush's reelection, campaign money came from the Saudis via James Bath (of BCCI fame, a known contributor to Osama Bin Laden). Later, SBC funnels Saudi money into Bush gubernatorial and presidential campaigns. Does this make Bush a terrorist? No, there is dirty money all over politics. Should he be in jail? Maybe, but not for any of the connections listed above.

I guess realdeal and Ms. Palin must be related. His initial response to my comment has nothing to do with the subject matter at hand. Sad that the only response some people have is energy.

Have you noticed that Ms. Palin doesn't bring the gas pipeline up in conversation as much anymore. Could it be the fact that she spend $500-million in advance on an agreement to look into construction with no guarantee that the pipeline has to be build. Or is it the fact that the gas won't start flowing until 2015 or later.

I have a friend in Atlanta who once asked me if Alaska was still in the U.S.. I told him yes and he asked why we were selling oil to the U.S. at OPEC prices. Couldn't answer that one. I did tell him that we pay a higher price for out gasoline and heat than they do down south. My friend used to live in Eagle River - he left when the pipeline was finished. He said he would come back to work on the new gas-line but the company that won the no-bid-bid was Canadian.

As for who is calling the shots while Ms. Palin is out campaigning? Call her office in Anchorage and ask a question about troopergate or e-mails - you will be referred to a McCain office in Virginia or a lawyer from Texas.

Like I said - I voted for her once - but now I want my state back......

I read a lot of national coverage of Palin. Without exception, mainstream media mentions Palin's positive attributes as well as her negative ones. (How many times have we read something like: “Palin has a reputation or a reformer.” before we read something like, “But is largely inexperienced in policy on the national or international level.”? Yet, her supporters grab onto the second statement and cry foul.

What I see from Palin's most rabid supporters here is the extreme tendency to focus on the negative (usually while screaming something disparaging about Obama).

I am led to believe that those who support Palin want to hear ONLY nice things about her—regardless of the fact that there *are* things about Palin (like every other politician in the U.S.) that make folks uncomfortable.

Someone, please, answer these: Why should Sarah Palin be the only candidate running for any office who is immune from negativity? Why should the media leave her alone? Why should the media only communicate glowing remarks about Palin—especially if the American public has expressed doubts about her? Why should the public not express doubts about her? Is the responsibility of the media to make Palin and her supporters feel good about themselves, or is it to help the public make a decision based on all the information out there?
