Letter to the Editor

Wake up, America

Published Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Sept. 20, 2008

To the editor:

Thank you to Ken Peterson! He has stated what I have been trying to tell people all along. You all believe so much in Obama. He is not for America, he is for himself and he will turncoat on America the first chance he has.

If you live in Alaska, then you know that Alaska is bigger than any state in the Lower 48. So I would say Sara Palin has plenty of experience governing a large area. And yes, Bush was wrong, but I will not blame McCain for that. If you had one bad waitress, would you blame all of them?

Obama is racist, in his own words. From his book. He is merely telling you all what you want to hear!

A true American will, in fact, want someone in office that is for our country. He has not once that I have seen (and this is my opinion) thanked our men and women in the armed forces enough for their duty and sacrifice.

He is constantly, like McCain, talking about energy and reform. Our economy is crumbling and everyone is worried about the first female vice president or first black American president. Has he mentioned one thing about our issues with Russia? So far, I only have heard Sarah Palin’s input on them. Russia is landing jets in Venezuela right now. Did he comment on our safety for that? When confronted about his books, he changes the subject. When asked about everything he states by his own mouth in these two books, he denies, and this is someone you all want as the president of our country?

Not true Americans and certainly not true Alaskans! If you want to condemn us for Palin and McCain, at least they don’t deny such things as Obama, and Sarah has made a difference for us. And Google Cindy McCain, I think you all will be surprised by what she has achieved as well. And instead of worrying about digging up lies and dirt, dig up truth and fact about where our country and economy are headed.

Hard to follow this letter. Should have written it one day and read it the next day before sending.
I hope most people are aware of where our Country is heading! I think we are there and just don't know that. Most people I know have been talking about the state of our Nation for several years. This should not have been a surprise to anyone.

McCain & Obama both are talking about energy and Foreign policy & reform. But only McCain could answer 4 detailed questions on energy and Foreign policy & laws. I asked them both, Obama; on a family trip to Northwestern Unv. in Ill to see our daughter 1 1/2 years ago & McCain in Phoenix, Arizona 1 1/2 years ago. McCain & Obama both need to focus on themselves & thier answers & thier knowledge of policies & laws & voters. My concern is the up coming debates & thier answers will not be a true debate session. I can expect the debates to be preplanned answers with notes with the intent to argue & finger pointing & not stick to the facts or questions that relate to us as voters. How can we as voters know where they each stand on policy & laws & facts & thier knowledge of them with finger pointing at each other & distorted facts & not having thier act together? They both need to "reform" thier childish behavior of using distorted facts like middle school students. If either wants to win fairly & honestly & honourable that is.

Like the illegal Banking bail out by Congress right now. Elected people who don't know the laws or the United States Constitution scare me. Obama has violated both national laws & international laws recently & our Constitution.

Russia is responding to international energy and Foreign policy & laws & oil. Russia has warned the world leaders for years at the G-8 summits what Russia will do. And Russia is doing exactly as Russia warned the world it would do. As recently as this summer at the G-8 summit meetings a month before the Olympics in China.... Sitting by Bush at the Olympics in China on worldwide cameras; as the country of Georgia was being attacked with a smile on Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy; President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia; Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany; Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom; Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda of Japan; President George W. Bush of the United States; Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada; President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, and José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission was all the "family" at the 34th G8 Summit in Hokkaido, Japan.

McCain or Obama will be at the 35th G8 summit is to take place in Maddalena, Italy, in July 2009. I want knowledge not kid games for my vote. I don't want the US to be in Georgia's or Venezuela's position with Russia. Palin & Biden better get thier knowledge & act together also.....

thats right. if you can govern a 365 million acre patch of land with 680 thousand people for 20 months, you're obviously fit to be a heart beat away from leader of a nation of 300 million.

Yes Susan.....yes..you ARE entitled to YOUR opinion.
And frankly, the abovementioned "opinion" is some of the worst, fear mongering load of crap I've seen in some time.
You sound very fearful of Candidate Obama.
Maybe because he's someone you don't identify with.
That's obvious, because human nature says we "fear what we don't understand."
In@#$in-credible!!!! The sight of a Black man occupying the highest office in the nation, and the possibility that a Black man will be one of, if not THE most powerful person on Earth for the next four years....has you scared Susan.
You sound like one of those "White American Women" we keep hearing about in the media that thinks an Obama Administration will "end all time as we know it"....and you instead want to stick with "whats safe."
Sorry....Sarah Palin isn't running for President....and from what you said in your letter, I guess you're wishing McCain would just disappear too.
At least you admit Bush was a colossal failure....but sorry Susan...bringing "Sarah Sarah" to the next level...means you're stuck with "Old John" too...and unfortunately, a "Third Bush term."
And in case your weren't listening, she DID mention Russia when she talked with Charlie Gibson....she said "you could actually see Russia from Alaska,"
but had no clue as to the foreign policy "Bush Doctrines" when asked.
    That's lovely.
That "field trip" to the United Nations she's taking today I guess is expected to help her on the overall knowledge "tip".
    That's laughable at best too.
    Obama "not of this country?"
    Come on.
This man can profess he loves this country, and honor our troops, etc. until he's literally blue in the face, and STILL he'll be criticized.
He'll "turncoat" on you the first chance he has?
Oh man....you're REALLY reaching there Susan.
Sounds like you're expecting the "BOOGEY-MAN" or someone to that effect.
How about we get real here.....and accept this man on his merits, and knowledge for the task at hand.
"Old John" has been twisting in the wind lately, mainly because alot of the policies he supported, and decisions he made "back in the day" are now coming back to bite him in the ass.
That and the looming shadow of Bush.
He can't run from it.....and "Sarah Sarah" can't save him either.
You talk about Cindy McCain and what she's done.
Well, she'll make a great crying towel for "Old John" on November 5th Susan.
    And "Sarah, Sarah?"
She's coming back home to Alaska.
She's got a state to run.......
    I thought you knew.
And as for you telling America to "wake up?"
I think its you that needs to wake up as well.
    To the possibilities that is.....
Oh yeah! And stop sounding so scared.
This day has been long in coming.
Just something you're going to have to deal with.

McCain & Palin & or Nader & Gonzales needs to send a fact finding army of spies to Illinois & Delaware like Obama has in Alaska on Palin. See if Obama & Biden can stand the same pressure he puts on Gov. Palin & family. See if Obama & Biden can only dish it out & not take the pressure. Dig up his messy past & present. What's good for the goose is good for gander......

    majast2211

Considering only Gov. Palin is the only one on the ballots who has experience in governing people. Neither McCain or Nader & Gonzales or Obama & Biden have experience in governing people; obviously the experience or lack of experience in governing people is a poor example of fitness in leadership.

Gov. Palin governing 680 thousand is still more experience than McCain or Nader & Gonzales or Obama & Biden has experience in governing people.

Alaskans complain about Gov. Palin on the campaign with McCain while people in Arizona or Illinois or Delaware are without thier senators working for thier states in the Senate. How many voting sessions has McCain or Obama or Biden missed that apply to thier states? I look at it like this who still does thier "jobs" on the campaign travels. At least Gov. Palin does Alaska's business on her laptop while campaigning where as no senator can be an active senator for thier state if they aren't at the senate in person to represent & vote for thier states. Obama kicked Illinois & his senatorship to the curb for his own selfish goals a long time ago. Sen. Obama leaves his state & voters behind without a look back. At least Sen. Stevens doesn't get lost traveling the world on Alaska when it's time to support Alaska in the Senate, like Obama does Illinois. Obama is nothing but a great orator & a pretty hot air balloon, all air & no staying power.

Exactly which of the 6 different "Bush Doctrines" of foreign policy was Charlie Gibson asking Gov. Palin about since Bush changes his "Bush Doctrines" foreign policy like the wind? Which was Charlie Gibson of asking Gov. Palin about; 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, or 2008 of "Bush Doctrines" foreign policy?

Just asking because Charlie Gibson never stated which one he was referring to.

Hey OldSkool, This letter is obviously not worth responding to. I am just saddened that our public schools (and parochial) are such a dismal failure, as this rambling mess of illogical non-sequitors well reveals.

But I'm going to change the subject. In this morning's Times, Bill Clinton is reported as saying just how much he appreciates the nomination of Sarah Palin for VP, and that the criticism of her and her family must stop (I'm paraphrasing, of course). So enough. Let's take the high road. They may continue the name calling, the lies, the racism -- hell, they may win the White House for that matter. But I am beginning to feel like I am losing something of myself in all of this. I need to take Clinton's words to heart. I've had enough.

To think "any" of these pairs of running mates that are name calling, telling lies, the half truths, the racism, the sexist, the lack of addressing the issues -- hell, one of these pairs will win the White House. And I wouldn't want any of them to teach my children as an example of leadership. And it's scary to me what our leaders are coming to & setting examples of to our youth.

I've felt like we "all" are losing something of ourselves in all of this for a while, well years anyway. You are right tho "Let's take the high road." on all of them including the news people.

Susan has written a nice letter that puts forward her reasons for her decision to not vote for the Obamessiah. I know that the various tidbits of information that I have read also tell me that although both parties have not put forward their best Presidential representatives of their "agenda", their respective decisions have been made.

As between the dancing around facts by and the associations held by Mr. Obama, and the well understood background of Mr. McCain, I think that Mr. Obama is a wet behind the ears arrogant fool. The guy cannot even engage in extemporaneous speaking and has to take a TELEPROMPTER to a RODEO because he cannot put a coherent sentence together on the fly with a crowd listening.

The John McCain and Sarah Palin are getting my vote, not an inarticulate weather vane Marxist, the Obamessiah.

It's a lot easier to manage any state, country, buisiness, when there's lots of money to throw around. We got rid of Frank Murkowski, to get Sarah?

I stull want to hear from all the Alaskans "afraid" to speak the truth about Sarah Palin for fear of retribution.

In 8 years, G W Bush has nearly single handedly destroyed the US.

You want 4 more years of Bushenomics?

"On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2. The 'health problem' cited in those articles was aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings.

There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info.
Generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it out there to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible.

However, at this point, with this inside info from the DNC, it looks like this Obama strategy will be a go. Therefore, it seems that the best strategy is to get out in front of this Obama maneuver, spell it out in detail, and thereby expose it for the grand manipulation that it is."

Biden out and Hillary in is the rumor.

A lot of people talk about the economy and how it is crumbling. I am hoping that when McCain & Obama have their big debate McCain throws that in Obama's face. He saw this bank nightmare coming 3 years ago and tried to pass a bill to reform them. Then Obama will have to speak for his record of donations to those big banks! That ought to show a bunch of you where he is going to put the economy - in his back pocket in case you can't figure it out.

I don't understamd how so many people have been blindsided by this Obama! He really isn't even that good of a speaker - and Joe Biden is even worse!

I think Nancy Pelosi was Obama's first choice being picked over Biden. And Nancy Pelosi waited to see how the primary went for Hillary. I think if Biden steps out maybe Obama will pick Nancy Pelosi. Obama & Hillary & Bill don't strike me as being buddies since the primary. With Bill recently saying back up on attacks on Palin & family to the press.

    ***
Here's why I say Pelosi for Biden & Hillary to step up into Pelosi's House Speaker seat.:

    Pelosi

"A leader on the environment at home and abroad, Pelosi secured passage of a provision in the International Development and Finance Act of 1989 which requires the World Bank and all the regional multilateral development banks to review the potential environmental impacts of development projects for which they provide funding and to make these environmental assessments publicly available. Known as the "Pelosi Amendment," it has become a significant tool for indigenous, nongovernmental organizations around the world.

Pelosi has also served on the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (Ethics) and the Banking and Financial Services Committee. She has chaired the Congressional Working Group on China and has served on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Study Group."

    http://www.house.gov/pelosi/biography/bi...

I've heard both rumors of Pelosi & Hillary replacing Biden. I could see both Pelosi & Hillary in the VP debate against Palin & not after the debate. But I can't see Hillary taking the back seat to Obama as VP. I still question why Hillary cancelled an appearance for yesterday at a New York rally staged by Jewish groups after organisers neglected to tell her that Sarah Palin was coming. But many of Hillary's backers are now backing Palin. And Hillary not really vocal on Palin or Obama. If nothing was behind closed doors with Obama & Hillary I could see Pelosi. Pelosi spends alot of effort & time making jabs at on McCain & Palin.

    But that's just my reasoning.

Ms. Kerin's narrow minded attitude is exactly what rational thinking Americans (and Alaskans for that matter) need to be worried about.

So just because Palin governs the largest state in the union somehow makes her qualified for the second most important job in the world? Have you looked at the population lately? Have you looked at how much federal land is contained within our borders? The extent of her foreign policy experience is that she can see Russia from her front door. (Although I fully expect that after her meeting with the Afghan president today in NY the Republican Party will crown her as a foreign policy expert. Just wait...)

And furthermore Ms. Kerins, if you're going to call Obama a racist please quote the book where he specifically says he is a racist. If you don't quote you're a bigot.

Our "hold me accountable" governor...what a sideshow.

I spent most of my life as a democrat. Raised a democrat. Voted a democrat. I have read Obama's books. For the first time in my old life I am truly afraid that there is a possibility that this country may elect a President that truly does not love America. And I don't give a da-- if he/she is black, white, brown, red, yellow or any combination of them. But I do want a President that both he and the VP are proud of America since the day they were born. There's no choice but the Republic ticket this year.

sherry29, thank you for pointing out that McCain saw the problem 3 years ago and tried to pass a reform bill. I just need to correct one thing, I'm sure it was just a keystroke error but I wouldn't want any uninformed DMN commenters to be confused. Obama did no donate to the defunked banks or corporations he recieved donations from. The second biggest reciepiant of funds to be exact right behind Chris Dodd who is disgustingly the head of the Banking Committee and a very proud democrat.

Why are people debating weather McCain or Obama is best. Obama received much more from Wall Street than McCain and McCain saved his campaign by taking foreign donations from foreign bankers (felonies). Bush did not "single handily" destroy the country; He was one of many who progressively did that. Although, we have fallen further under Bush than under any
