Statement from Gov. Sarah Palin to Alaskans:

Published Friday, August 29, 2008

Statement from Gov. Sarah Palin to Alaskans:

“It is the honor of my life to represent you as your Governor, and over the next two months I will continue to do so. As the mother of five, I know how to multi-task, and I will continue to promote the path of reform that we set out on together in the state of Alaska.”

“It is a great privilege to be John McCain's running mate and to be considered by the American people for the Vice Presidency. This honor is a testament to the reforms and progress we have made together in Alaska. Now is the time to take that spirit of reform to Washington.”

So she goes from an important position of helping Alaskans take back alaska from the greed and deception of her own party to a possible figurehead who will serve tea and crumpets to whatever minor foreign statesman the president doesn't really want to talk to. This is assuming, of course, that they even get elected in the first place, which is not going to happen now. So we are left to the machinations of--well, who knows? We don't even know if the Lt Gov. still wants the job! Sad day for Alaska and the republican party...

Congrats Sarah, but this seems like a ploy on McCain's part. Part of me is excited, but part of me also feels offended that McCain thinks that women will vote for him now that he has a woman VP contender.

Gov. Palin if you can turn the tide for change in Alaska, then I believe you can turn the tide in U.S.A. which is greatly needed right now. Gov. Palin you are a voice to be heard, not because you are a woman, because your voice speaks for truth, justice, and the Real American Way. Please put the "American Dream" back into the hearts of Americans! I believe your job is not done here in Alaska but if you have go than there is no greater position to take then Vice President of U.S.A.! Go make History!!

I agree, in that, it's a sad day for Alaskans. JUST when the promises of change for ALASKA comes to play, this announcement. I also believe its a McCain tactic to reach "the young and women votes" that he lacks. And IF she becomes VP, Alaska will have 2 high ranking positions (Gov & Lt. Gov) not elected by the people but appointed internally.
I may have been a republican but will vote Democrat - to keep Palin IN our governor's office.

In addition to "serve tea and crumpets", the Vice President is serves in the Senate. She should have some pull there. She can keep an eye on Ted.

Aqillian, look up "Senate bill S 2433". Is keeping Palin in Alaska worth putting up with someone who would write a bill like that?

    Dear Governor Palin,

You have made the citizens of Alaska proud to be Alaskans and now I am even prouder. Please ignore the rhetoric of the ignorant that spew negativity. I strongly beleive you were chosen as a running mate for many intelligent reasons. I believe Senator John McCain now has a good chance of being elected President thanks to you.
    Congratulations.

Don't be selfish. Vote for McCain and Palin. She can do just as much good (from her VP seat)if not more for Alaska.

As much as I hate to lose Palin as Governor, this could be a very positive move for both Alaska and the entire country. Hopefully she'll remember where she came from, and how important that is (which I believe she will).

I don't think anyone thinks all Cheny does is serve tea and crumpets. Maybe I'm naive, but I think McCain picked the best running mate. Not the best woman, not the youngest (although by default she is those things), but the out and out best. I am excited about voting for her because I think she is an honest, ethical leader that will consistently do what is right. The fact that she is a woman is irrelevant to me. I don't feel like McCain is pandering to women at all. I think he made a very smart decision for a lot of reasons.

I have been saying for awhile that McCain should and would pick her. She will win McCain the election and be the President after him. The Vice Presidency is just a stepping stone for her. She will be the first Alaskan President.

Republican Presidents and Democratic Congresses are what this nation needs to continue to be the Greatest Nation on Earth.

Governor Palin, I wish you the best! If you and McCain are elected, then Alaska's loss is the nation's gain. We still need you here, but will support you as our first Alaskan Vice-President.

A turning point in American history. Thank you Governor Palin for making Alaska part of it. Governor Palin has not "betrayed "Alaska. She has not only shown Alaska, but now the Nation, you don't have to put up with the group of politicians who think they are entitled to be the leaders. The everyday mother, wife, homemaker, hockey Mom can achieve it.

I was going to vote for Obama before it was pointed out to me in many letters to the editor and subsequent on-line comments that he doesn't wear an American flag pin or have enough national political experience, therefore making him an America hater unqualified to be president.

Now I find myself constrained by the same issues when considering Palin. Obviously I can't vote for Palin unless I am willing to abandon my jingoistic values and demonstrate a tremendous amount of hypocrisy. What is a good American to do??

Congrats to our own “Sarah Barracuda” that has the skills to be our own “Miss Congeniality”.

    Alaska's First Lady "Sarah Barracuda”

Sarah Barracuda has teeth to her bite to fight.

Miss Congeniality knows how to fight with congeniality and a smile.

Sarah Palin, McCain’s pick, forged maverick political path in Alaska
The GOP's surprise vice-presidential nominee brings a fresh face to the '08 race.

The young Sarah Heath once won the title “Miss Congeniality” in a local Alaska beauty contest. But her high school basketball teammates had another nickname for her, one that belied her genial surface: “Sarah Barracuda”.

    Gov. Palin's book

"Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down,"
Publisher Kent Sturgis says digital printing will be used to fill orders for the hardcover and that a paperback will be hurried out, with an expected printing of 50,000.
Published by Epicenter Press, Inc., based in Kenmore, Wash., and specializing in books about Alaska, "Sarah" was written by Anchorage author Kaylene Johnson and released in April. The Republican governor enjoys high approval ratings in her state and a small first printing of around 7,000 had sold out before Friday's announcement.

Epicenter was founded 21 years ago and publishes 10 or fewer books a year, Sturgis says. Its most popular book is Velma Willis' "Two Old Women," a 1993 release, based on an Athabascan Indian legend, that has more than 500,000 copies in print.

    It's great!

Well said with the dignity and grace of a true Alaskan. Governor, you are more than qualified and the only decisions required of you will be which side of the Senate represents the people and during international negotiations: "how would the President respond?" as you will be representing him and his policies. You will serve the people best if you can help to influence the President's policies by keeping him focused on limiting Government and grounded in doing what is best for the People. The people still prefer to do what they do best which is build this nation without the Government interfering or taxing it.

Those that would like to contribute to McCain-Palin should do so in the next 48 hours. Not only would that make a statement, but I think that there is a deadline involved because Sen McCain opted for public financing. Sen Obama also opted for public financing, but when he saw how lucrative it was to accept private contributions, he opted out. Now, Obama stands to have a huge financial advantage. That little extravaganza last night probably took a few dollars.
