Cleworth joins slim list of council hopefuls

Published Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Alaska Rare Coins owner and former council member Jerry Cleworth has declared his candidacy for Seat F on the Fairbanks City Council.

Seat F has a three-year term limit and is held by Councilwoman Tonya Brown. Candidates for city posts have until Friday to apply at Fairbanks City Hall.

As of late Monday, only two people have applied for seats on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly, where four of the board’s nine seats are up for grabs this year. The two applicants are Joe Blanchard, a recent University of Alaska Fairbanks graduate and former student government leader, and Tammie Wilson, a member of borough’s advisory Air Pollution Control Committee.

Borough candidates have until Friday to apply.

Victoria Thompson, a news director at KJNP radio, and Aino Welch, wife of incumbent North Pole City Council member Mike Welch, have both applied for council seats on the North Pole council. North Pole candidates have until Monday to apply.

Qualifications for candidacy in office include being a qualified voter who has lived in the city of Fairbanks for at least one year prior to filing.

A completed sworn declaration of candidacy and public official financial disclosure statement must be filed with municipal clerks along with candidates’ applications.

Jerry knows how to squeeze a nickle. The one term mayor may not like him there because he won't be a rubber stamp for her agenda.

    Good luck Jerry.

YIIPPEEE, four more years of regressive thinking! No better way to take the city backwards then to elect Jerry again. Then again, if you like living in a city that lacks vision and prefer a "think small, be small" attitude then be sure to throw your vote his way.

Any of you that support a sales tax over the property tax system we have now, DO NOT vote for Jerry. He is adament against a sales tax and will blocade it at every turn. If you like the current tax system, then he is your man.

student government leader and student government president imply two different things. At least give Joe the credit for what he did.

Can anybody please tell me what Jerry Cleworth has done to make the city of Fairbanks a better place?

Jerry Cleworth is part of a group of people that have made bad decision after bad decision, and have slowly helped give away the city's infrastructure.

Cleworth please stick to selling coins, or go find another city to screw up!
