Oil companies warn hunters to be mindful of surveyors
Published Tuesday, August 12, 2008
FAIRBANKS -- BP and ConocoPhillips are asking hunters along the proposed route of their Denali natural gas pipeline project from the Canadian border to Prudhoe Bay to be on the lookout for survey crews in the field during hunting season.
Survey work is being conducted along the proposed route within Game Management Units 12, 20, 24, 25 and 26, according to a press release issued by Denali officials.
Denali survey crews will be wearing orange and green safety vests in the field. Crew members in green vests are trained bear guides who will be carrying firearms. The survey crews will post signs along roadways to inform the public of their presence. Crews have been directed to avoid or minimize contacts with hunters, officials said.
If hunters encounter a survey crew, they should work with the crew to coordinate their hunt with the crew’s activities.

Trained bear guides bearing arms........don't guides need to be licensed within the state? Who trained them? BP/CONOCO?
I do believe the training is done from within each company, (Conoco/BP). I've never heard the term "guide" used before though.
If you see a surveyor, ask him where the big moose are!
The oil companies are already interferring with our hunting?? So with this natural gas line, will Alaskans be able to utilize our own natural gas? Or does it all get sold to countries in Asia? Then sold back to our government for cheaper fuel??

I guess i'm absolutely confused as to what your post is about. It's pretty simple, these companies are doing survey work along and around these hunting areas. It's a safety issue, not a political one.
What "maps" are you referring to? Have you researched the proposed route that ConocoPhillips and BP are proposing? And you do realize that not "map" is set in stone until this survey, and the enviromental imact studies done afterwords are complete?
Thanks AR- guards makes more sense and companies up north do train them. Guides on the other hand,(from my experience coming from a family of guides :)) is more extensive and regulated by State.
