SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines is entering into a partnership with the regional carrier Frontier Alaska.

Starting this fall Frontier Alaska passengers will be able to book through Alaska Airlines and redeem miles in its mileage plan.

Frontier Alaska serves 92 destinations, from commuter and postal service operations for Fairbanks and Anchorage to the state's bush communities. It was formed by the recent combination of Hageland Aviation Services and Frontier Flying Service.

Seattle-based Alaska Airlines and its regional airline Horizon Air serve 94 cities in Alaska, the Lower 48, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.

Is the hand writing on the wall? Alaska Airlines partnering with Frontier Flying Service - is this the beginning of streamlined air service to the Interior? What's the next step, pulling the jet service out of Fairbanks? When airline companies start talking this type of trash the consumer loses.

Better service is great, but, I certainly hope that Frontier will not be required for it's passengers to go through the security system. This would be a huge drawback. I would cease using Frontier and begin using Era.

I imagine that Frontier had to sign off on somekind of pricing agreement. Expect rates to Anchorage to go up.

If you have ever flown out to the bush on Alaska you know that most of the seats are removed for cargo. Most likely this will reduce the need to run daily passenger service to some of the bush communities on large jets and still provide daily service via Frontier to these communities for passengers coming to Fairbanks or Anchorage. Sounds like a good idea to keep the price of tickets from rising for the people in smaller communities.

    Good news,

As a very frequent traveler on the North Slope if I can earn and redeem miles through Alaska while flying Frontier all the better.

Frontier's prices have gone sky high, this helps a bit. Barrow to Nuiqsut RT is almost 500 dollars now. Barrow to Atqasuk almost 300 for a 20 minute flight there and back.

I remember when MarkAir and Alaska Air had a partnership going, I hope this goes better!

    Looks like the MarkAir deal.....

I will begin to use ERA now
