DTV workshop
Published Saturday, June 14, 2008
Sen. Ted Stevens and the Alaska Broadcasters Association will hold a digital television workshop from 11 a.m. to noon on June 20 at the Noel Wien Library.
The workshop is open to the public and will feature speakers from the Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunication and Information Administration, which are the agencies coordinating the mandatory DTV transition by Feb. 17.
Congress ensured that a $1.5 billion converter box coupon program was created to help households continue to use their analog televisions after the transition date.
The program allows U.S. households to get two coupons, each worth $40, to apply toward a converter box. The converter boxes will allow televisions to continue receiving broadcast signals after February.
Applications for coupons are available online at www.dtv2009.gov, and by calling Stevens’ Fairbanks office at 456-0261.
