Bush impeachment

To the editor:
This impeachment opportunity led by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, is extremely significant. The outcome of this will determine which direction our country, and to a certain degree the entire world, will take.
Do we punish criminals or do we stand by fearfully and let them destroy our freedom? It’s time we restore the Constitution of the United States!
The Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission, the Federal Reserve and all related organizations are the enemies of a free humanity. Let’s take back our freedoms, our currency, and OUR COUNTRY!

I hope you're as enthusiastic to impeach the President and "take back our freedoms" when its a Democrat in the White House signing off on unconstitutional gun control laws, skyrocketing taxes, and creating additional levels of bureaucracy for more government programs...all while Americans suffer. Somehow I doubt it.
Clinton was impeached for lying about a sexual transgression. Bush has always acted as if he and his administration is above the law. He has violated the principles of the Constitution, and broken numerous laws, yet he is still in office. Where's the justice in that?
Exactly what principle of the Constitution has been violated? What numerous laws?
Instead of sitting on his hands and having focus groups Bush has reacted. It is called LEADERSHIP! OK, fine, you do not like it, vote him out. Bush is gone in six months.
McCain/Obama, I do not think either will help us. Right now my concern is how to pay for gas in the car tank and heating costs next winter.
Blue5011,
Well let's see. Just yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled that the Bush Administration's denial of the Writ of Habeaus Corpus (protected by the Constitution) to Guantanamo detaineees was illegal. The administration's exemption of the Navy from environmental laws so it could use certain types of sonar harmful to marine life has been ruled illegal. Bush's attempted re-write of the Clean Air Act that would have allowed coal-fired power plants to circumvent the best available technology to control mercury emissions was deemed illegal. In fact, in the just the first 2 years of the Bush Administration, it lost 78% of the 94 court cases in which it attempted to circumvent or water down the National Environmental Policy Act. Should I go on?
Clinton wasn't impeached for "lying about a sexual transgression". He was impeached for perjury and obstructing justice. How convenient for the "Bush Haters"/Dems to constantly seek to rewrite history.
6 Years and 9 months since 9-11, with no terrorist attacks on American soil.
Kucinich is a fine example of a liberal Dem. When he's not dealing with space aliens.
His act of perjury was lying about his sexual transgression.
Here's an exerpt from an April 2006 Boston Globe article to fuel the fire:
"President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution.
Among the laws Bush said he can ignore are military rules and regulations, affirmative-action provisions, requirements that Congress be told about immigration services problems, ''whistle-blower" protections for nuclear regulatory officials, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded research.
Legal scholars say the scope and aggression of Bush's assertions that he can bypass laws represent a concerted effort to expand his power at the expense of Congress, upsetting the balance between the branches of government. The Constitution is clear in assigning to Congress the power to write the laws and to the president a duty ''to take care that the laws be faithfully executed." Bush, however, has repeatedly declared that he does not need to ''execute" a law he believes is unconstitutional."
So much for separation of powers. And so much for having a nation governed by laws. Bush signed up for running a democracy, but he would prefer to have run a dictatorship.
If anyone needs to be impeached, it's all the liberal democrat who continue to say no to Drilling on American soil and coasts. We know that in todays standard the safety practice of all drilling and refining has continued to set the standard in world. But enough is enough, when those rich democrats start to see more umemployed, homeless and more bankruptcies continue to climb, which they will if Oil is allowed to continue to climb. Fairbanks and rural Alaskan villages are already feeling the crunch. If California Democrats feel that drilling in America won't help the ecomony, then let them pay $10 a galloon and we in Alaska pay $2 a galloon, Im sure their's enough liberals in California and New York more then willing to cover the difference in fuel prices.. It's our OIL, so why are we paying through the nose....

In honesty, an impeachment at this point is only a way for some people to show publicly that they do not support this offices actions. There has been a long pregnant pause by all of us waiting for our next presidential election that is likely to be one of the most pivotal in recent amercian history and I for one cant wait to see which way things go. Either way, I dont think that any of the presidential candidates have a finger on the pulse of what is affecting our lives up here in the interior.
More Americans have been killed in Iraq than in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. The manipulation and outright lies to get this nation into a War, in turn it's bankrupted the America both fiscally and morally. Once, America was viewed as the Moral Leaders of the World, doing what was right. Now, you have to be careful when you travel and mention you're an American... not so much because anyone will hurt you, because they will ask you "Why did you start a war.".
You can't have a War, any War, and have tax cuts at the same time. Do the math it just doesn't add up.
Impeaching a Lame Duck President won't do any good. While it will send a "message", that's all. The new President will have a choice, whether or not to pardon Bush/Cheney if any future charges are brought up after they are out of office. Not only that, but there ARE serious War Crime charges OUTSIDE of the US they can face. Torture is rarely justifiable, even in this country. This is Bush's last trip to Europe, because once he is no longer a Head of State he loses all of his Diplomatic Immunity and could be brought up on War Crime Charges.
can you imagine what things would have been like if al gore had won back in 2000? how much would heating fuel cost today if he had been elected president. environmentalists and anti-war people... your time has passed. go back to tending your gardens and sipping your chai tea. i think in the near future as the seriousness of the energy crunch here in alaska and the usa becomes worse you'll see more war for oil and total disregarding of restrictive environmental rules. no war for oil? lets see what the people say about that when the grocery stores are totally empty.
hooray for bush for removing that evil tyrant from the world stage. hooray for bush for fighting back against totally absurd environmental regulations. hooray for bush for locking up those evil people who would do so much harm if they were free from guantanamo bay prison. when is it my turn to torture them?
Andrew Johnson was Officially impeached within 10 days of his offense. We have time. I believe that we should impeach them both. Some long talks about those secret energy meeting may go a long way towards finding out why gas is $4.00+ a gallon. You can be impeached after leaving office, so it is never too late. What’s the point? Congressmen take an oath to defend our Constitution and it is not an option to impeach, but their duty. If he is removed from office, we won’t have to pay his lifetime $400,000 a year plus benefits salary which in just a few years would make up for the cost of impeachment and even if not removed, we would know that they did their duty and we would all get the opportunity to see that moment. I call it the "Clinton is guilty moment" where he asked for the definition of sex. From that moment, all who didn’t already know knew he was lying. He was convicted in the court of public opinion and you know from watching Bush's many press conferences and being asked things that he didn’t want to answer that it would be an historic and entertaining day. History will reflect that we did nothing on the heels of impeaching for a lie about a consensual sex act. We are all as guilty as he is if they are allowed to walk without even holding the hearings. This isn’t a red or blue issue. It’s an American one.
If the Republicans would show they aren't in bed with this guy and would support the impeachment, it would restore my respect for them and gain my vote. I vote for the ones I believe are doing my wishes and protecting my best interests and the interests of the American people.
Polarmark, you and I are on the same page...thanks for your views. The majority of the rest of you -- ever heard of spell check?
Bush has been a disaster for this country.
If like what he is doing, vote for John McSame, you'll get four more years of it.
So just think what will happen when the lib dems try to push an inexperienced freshman senator into the white house, ... that's better?
Impeachment would only serve to pull focus from our energy issues. That is a cost many are not willing to afford. Speaking of cost, impeachement proceedings would cost millions and waste hundreds of hours.
Non_Lemming,
Those are pretty lame arguments for not impeaching the President. You're worried about cost? How about the cost of the Iraq war that has served to devalue our dollar and contribute to our current energy woes? Impeaching a President that has earned it is not a waste of anyone's time.
AKhusky, Paul, Draconianslacker and Outraged,
I applaud your attempts but they will never get it. Never.
Everytime I hear about "lib dems," I want to start talking about "con reps."
Henry
Three Presidents (as far as I can recall) have been impeached; Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and William Jefferson Clinton. None of them was ever convicted. Andrew Johnson, I believe, escaped Impeachment Conviction by one vote. Richard Nixon escaped conviction by Resigning. Bill Clinton escaped because somewhere around half of the nation didn't care about what he'd done ("It was just about sex and that's a private matter..." - no, it was about Lying to a Federal Grand Jury and the people still didn't care).
I'm not particularly pleased with George Bush but I will admit that I voted for him because I couldn't stand the thought of "allowing" either Al Gore or John Kerry into the White House. I can't stand the political views (or inexperience) of Barack Obama but I don't care for the Liberal Views of RINO John McCain either.
The simple truth is that I don't know if I can "hold my nose against the stench" of John McCain long enough to vote for him so this Election is truly "Up for Grabs". There are a lot of Conservative Republicans and Independents who, like me, are not certain they will be able to swallow their bile and vote for the "Maverick John McCain".
One last thought on Impeachment - as many people as there are who do favor Impeachment for George Bush, there are an equal number who do not favor Impeachment for him (and I think this country has been 'simmering' in partisan politics for a long time). Impeachment when there is this much partisan divide could be all that is needed to finally tear the fabric of this nation in to two parts. We've had one Civil War in this nation - do we really want to see another one?
I don't care what anyone says about the War, we did not start anything. This War was started when the low-down Cowards flew their planes into our Country and killed innocent people. People can say what they want about Bush, but he acted instead of sitting on his hands. Wrong or not at least he did something.
no doubt, mccain ISN'T the same. no way am i voting for either of the two. i'll write someone in. it was so refreshing going 8 years without having to hear about a pervert in the whitehouse who can't control his sexual impulses. clintons think they are god. they think they have permission to lie cheat and steal (murder?) to get what ever they want. it gave me so much pleasure to see hillary lose.
Alwayslistening:
I agree!!!! Now lets go attack the country where those cowards were from.....SAUDI ARABIA!!!
Pardon me, if I ask, just when did the US actually recognize the"obstruction of justice", "lies", "deceit", "sending 4,000+ to their deaths over a war based on heresay"? Just look at or review the tape of Bush reading to school children during 911. DUH! Bush lied and he knew it. Bush should be held accountable for the deaths of and depression he solely has launched this country into.
Coincidentally, Senator Stevens wrote a promotion outlawing cyber-bullying. If I'm being a "bully" against Bush, say so. Frankly, the truth hurts. George Bush is guilty of violating the laws of US Constitution and I say impeach him.
yes, frozenfish!
polarmark,
I know a fellow from Kansas you might like to write in.
You know Fred Phelps? Seems like your kind of dude.
Polarmark:
I 100% agree with your comments! Thanks! Like you, I have no idea how I am going to vote in this next election. To me, there is no better choice at this point.
Charges of 'Obstruction of Justice, lies, deceit, etc.' based unfounded rumors, innuendo, and lies won't work either. One of the shortcomings of the Internet is that anyone can say anything and there's little or no accountability. If it proves untrue, little is ever said or done. Ask the celebrities in Hollywood about all of the lies and deceit that is printed about them on a daily basis in the Tabloid Magazines.
When you say President Bush lied, obstructed justice, etc. you still have to prove it. Wild charges don't prove anything beyond your own intense feelings of anger and outrage.
President Bush may have done all you allege (and more) but you haven't proved your case. Assuming you could get the minimum number of members in the House and Senate to vote to Impeach, you would still have to prove the allegations to be true beyond the standards of proof required by the House and Senate. It would also help if you had someone in support of Impeachment other than Dennis Kucinich (who was allegedly abducted and experimented on by space aliens - the Tabloids said so)...
