To the editor:
We wish to thank the city of Fairbanks, Aurora Station, University of Alaska Fairbanks and Fort Wainwright fire departments for their service. Their response to our chimney fire was all of the following: speedy, professional, caring, competent, thorough and basically flawless from our point of view. It was speedy with minutes to show-up time, competent with the myriad of personnel and situations that arose, thorough with the care used to subdue the fire, and caring in dealing with our family and our property.
We have renewed appreciation and respect for our firefighters, their equipment and their leadership. We will advocate for more pro-active measures of prevention, and support for municipal and volunteer department efforts.
Again, our hearts go out in thanks to our dedicated crews that saved our home, and under slightly different circumstances, could have saved our lives. We owe them a debt of gratitude. We also thank our friends, family, community and faith community for all their support.

Fairbanks and it's surrounding areas are very fortunate to have the caliber of fire fighters that it does. They are among some of the bravest and best trained fire fighters I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I sleep well at night knowing these men and women stand ready to come to my aid should they need to. Thank you.
I couldn't agree more. Too bad the usual "anti-employee" city council members don't feel the same.
Thank you, Mr. Bunter, for supporting your firefighters with both your words and your dollars.
The Steese Vol Fire Dept and Northstar Vol Fire dept are in the process of being re-classified. What does this mean? well if they pass all their testing it will mean lower insurance rates for homeowners and renters insurnace policies.
GOOD LUCK TO THEM!!
I still think they need to expand the limits which they are allowed to put out serious fires. how many have lost their homes now? ... the firefighters showed up to make sure "The forest doesn't catch fire..".. I know they aren't the one that called those shots. but someone else did.. why cant they expand the borough just a little more?... my friends were less than a mile out of their reach and lost everything, a lifetime of memories, and all the fighters could do is watch trees... *AGAIN I SAY, ITS NOT THEIR FAULT* EXTEND THE BOUNDRIES PLEASE!
Eagle - what on earth does that have to do with this writers letter?
John Bunter - Thank you for writing this. I'm sure all those involved appreciated your thank you. I hope the damage to your house was minimal and you can rebuild quickly.
.....I'm thankful that they helped this family by all means God Bless... I just have a hard time with the borough who dont seem to want to extend their range of help... i.e not helping out those that are just a few miles out of their range, NOT THEIR CALL OR FAULT... but when they show up to a home on fire and tell the family "sorry theres nothing we can do, we are here to make sure there isn't a forrest fire..." im sorry i guess its a sensative subject for me, i guess i posted in the wrong article... Thank you borough for saving a families home that was in the boundries, it's not your call where you can and cannot help those in need, I can't imagine having to live with that on my mind, you are very courageous. Thank you. You guys put your life on the line for us when we need you... thank you! Thank you!! .....* I just wish the borough would extend the hand of help a little further!!!!!!!*...
Thank you to all who keep us safe..
