Letter to the Editor

Well-heeled heels

To the editor:

Earth’s largest and worst violator of human rights is hosting the Olympics this summer. The International Olympics Committee has forfeited its dignified image by showboating the sports events in Communist China.

The IOC is doing an inexcusable disservice and being utterly disrespectful to moral, hard-training, dedicated athletes. The organization knew allowing the repressive regime this unjustified honor would be controversial.

Why did the IOC choose to hold the games in this communist country? Money. The outfit has become nothing more than a revenue-generating stunt. Ethical behavior is avoided at all costs, obviously. Just like Bush and his incompetent, plundering Teflon administration. No accountability.

America has a young democracy. The infamous bumbling Junior and his nasty self-serving appointees have stunted its growth for more than seven years. They have ignored our constitutional laws and shown contempt toward the Bill of Rights.

More than 70 percent of Americans believe the Bush Brigands are leading the nation in the wrong direction. The other 20-odd percent think everything is okey-dokey: people like profiteering Bush supporters, the legally insane, those with an IQ below 60, the bloodthirsty neo-cons, halfwits, dimwits and nitwits.

Anyone who spurns this logic probably also mistakenly believes Junior’s brain is larger than a pea. To call him a pea-brain is giving too much credit to this unfit president. There are innumerable reasons jejune Junior has a lower approval rating than fellow Republican crook Tricky Dick Nixon.

Of course, America’s foremost village idiot will attend the Olympics opening ceremony. Junior has been ordered to go by Creepy Cheney and the omnipotent commerce magnates.

Communist China is financing the Cheney/Bush/Iraq fiasco. Ultracheap Chinese laborers, lax regulations and unenforced environmental laws favor multinational corporations.

China’s trade policy failures continue unfettered. Thank the Nazi-like secretive proven corrupt Bush administration for perpetuating the flourishing tyrannical Communist doctrine.

Emperor Cheney and his court jester Junior desecrated the moral principles of our democracy years ago. Republican leadership has refused to hold them accountable.

Goodbye incumbents.

    Wow - what a....letter

Is this hate-filled rhetoric really the type of stuff the Daily News Miner is looking to headline in their coveted 'Letter to the Editor' slot?

"the legally insane, those with an IQ below 60, the bloodthirsty neo-cons, halfwits, dimwits and nitwits" etc etc

Agree or disagree on current policy - this letter is crap. There are much better ways to adress your dislike or disagreement in a productive way.

DNM - Please do better when picking these - pure hate and venom really doesnt need a venue such as this, does it? Honest discourse is wonderful - this isnt it.

I think they do it because they know they can get a lot of traffic coming here to comment out of it and no matter how much we ask them to publish better stuff they aren't going to because it "sells"

Ideological hate soon deteriorates into twisted logic. Depraved ranting just distorts the issues and suppresses rational discourse. Where was Mr. Carmack when Bill Clinton was trading classified military technology to China in exchange for campaign contributions?

Good points about the human rights violations. But, its the Olympics. The OLYMPICS. Does anyone really care?

Its easy to say from the comfort of your living room that the President should boycott them. But any President, of either party, despite all the posturing, would not boycott them either.

People deserve the Government that they have. Dont let the revolution start without me.

    Wow,

What do you say after something like that? Does that mean that since Bill Clinton has millions of dollars invested in the Chinese Government owned Xinhua Finance Media Ltd., that he is a bad man to? Or is the hatred confined only to one party/administration?

Dude, you need some meds. All that hatred is going to burn you up.

The writer is correct about the Chinese Olympics. This will be the ultimate insult to him, but he sounds like a conservative on this point. I wish Bush would not participate in the opening ceremonies.

But then, the usual pathetic attempt at logical debate by a liberal. Nothing but venom and name calling toward their fellow citizens. Why, why, why, why...you're a Nazi. And stupid. And, and, and Cheney makes me mad...

Man, this is like what I hear on AM talk Radio, Fox and read in Weakly Standard...just in reverse. I always like to think what the other side would be saying if for the last 7 years a Dem. was doing what BUSHCo was doing? You know what, glacierles, John, Reader1, JoeBtfsplk, akguy and all the others would be writing this exact letter!

    Makes me laugh...but, but, Bill!

Man that whine song is old, but they keep going back to it!

This letter is extreme, I hear ya Craig. It all will be history soon...and then all these guys will spend the next 8 years trying to re-write history. Blame it all on the Dems. and try to scare up the American people again.

Boy, OBAMA sure Changed it for them, they thought they had a fighting chance with Hillary...LOL.

What are they going to do now...thinking about that makes me sad. I know what they will do, and what level they will stoop to get what they want. Let’s hope for the best for this great country. We are going to need it.

Why is everyone making such a big deal because Bush will attend the opening ceremonies? Will they cancel the ceremony if he isn't there?? Do you really think anyone will really even notice? Not being there will really make no difference at all, except to those athletes that have worked a lifetime to parade before the world and try to prove they are the best at what they do. What will it mean to them if thier president is too busy making a statement that really doesn't mean anything, to acknowlege thier dedication?

Ok, frankly, I liken Bush to the best con artist ever. I liken the US citizens to the party, who blindly followed Hitler. Bush attends the IOC opening ceremony in China, how fitting. If you research US/China history, you would see how Bush's grandfather had a long association of interest with China.

How can US consumers oppose China hosting the Olymipcs ? They own us. It's somewhat like the Trojan horse invasion. We invited China into our lives with open arms. Didn't seem as though any Americans REALLY opposed slave cheap labor, when we can buy our Made in China junk cheap.

Face it America you've been bought and sold. You now owe Saudi Arabia, China and host of other wealthy nations a portion of your future paychecks.

Craig....well, you had a point about Bush being the only major world leader to attend the Olimpic opening ceremonies but most people need a running start to go so far over the edge in such a short letter.

Then again aren't these kinds of letters why we read this section?

Well, if you look in the financial section, you'll read how China is paying half what the US is for oil. In fact, GM, Ford, Chevrolet are making more money in China than they are here. Those profits, no doubt, explain why GM is closing 3 plants in the US. We should ask Ford to replace all the railroad tracks they ripped out in the 40s to ensure America had NO option of travel aside from a car.

Yesseree, the truth hurts, but someone has to alert America. The housing fiasco certainly isn't enough of a wake-up call. Perhaps a national debt tax on your paychecks will alert some.

WOW. Guess people forgot the Democrats took control of the Congress in Jan 2006 and it has been all downhill financially ever since. Gas was $2.16 when they took control. The housing market was soaring. Coincidence, I think not. Enough President Bush bashing, yes, I put President in front of Bush, it is a title, but many people, especially the media, just say Bush. Until you realize that the Congress controls the direction of this country and its ups and downs you are only spewing garbage that you read in a liberal newsletter somewhere or heard on the far left NBC or the Clinton News Network (CNN). Congress approved the war in Iraq and they have the power to stop it. Have they? They promised to in their election bids! Fell for that one too eh? Wake up America and quit following the blind sheep who lead with lies and deception.

As for the Olympics, who frickin cares. Our athletes earned the right to be there and compete. They don't care where as long as they have the chance to showcase their abilities. Patriotism to our country and our athletes should be from the top down. president Bush should go and represent our athletes and country to the whole world.

I think the Olympics lost all credibility when they started allowing pro athletes to compete. Besides, they only let pro athletes compete to attract more sponsors, not because they're the "best in the world". More credibility even so when transgender competitors were also allowed to compete.

On a different note, is this letter about the Olympics being in Communist China or about Bush Jr. being a crappy president? Seems like 30 years ago when the Olympics were held in the Soviet Union things weren't "that bad" for the competitors. Plus, it's not like someone just read that letter and learned that Bush is stupid. Seriously, we have things like MSNBC, Fox News, and now the Daily News Miner to remind us of that every day.

I have a feeling that if Al Gore or John Kerry had won the presidency in 2000 and 2004 respectively, we'd be reading letters about how our president was too much of a chump to intervene with this crisis of humanity and ethnic cleansing occuring in Iraq. For the record, don't expect Obama to save our country. Who are you gonna blame when he can't turn the American economy and America's credibility on the world stage around?

OK, now if we can get past the fact that the letter is from the Planet Bizzaro, can I just add that I think the choice of China was questionable? In recent days, this government has been incredibly aggressive in its efforts to try to show the world how far its come, how progressive its policies are, etc. I know of several academic friends over the past year or two from a variety of disciplines, all of whom have had their annual meetings in China. Coincidence? I don't believe so. In my case, the Chinese came to a meeting I attended back in 2003 armed with the glossiest presentation you can imagine to encourage that the next conference, in 2008, would be held in China. Well, guess where the organizing committee planned the conference? Problem is, those protests over Tibet broke out, and suddenly, the Chinese got nervous. A conference that had been planned for 5 YEARS was suddenly "postponed" by the Chinese Government -- no explanation, nothing. Afraid of a few liberal academics?

So if we can get past the weirdness of the presentation of the letter, I sympathize to a degree with the basic point expressed here. China is still China, and we would be naive to forget that as we watch their little show this coming August.

BigDan, you are right on! Two years since the Democrats took over congress and $2 higher on gas...and it will be even worse if Obama gets elected with his tax plan -- even less $$ in our wallets and still having to pay more for gas.

Does any one really think you will ever have gas @ 2.50 a gallon, again? Come on. The recent hike in gasoline is due to global demand, and oil profiteers greed. The US dollar has lost value due to US debt, and frankly China's money has more value than ours.

Face it, America is FAT on imports, borrowed money, greasy food, and gas guzzelers. Here is China's goal: World domination. China has nearly achieved its goal. Where do you think you're getting financial aide from? Saudi Arabia, China, Japan. Where does Walmart get its products? China.

People can't even breathe the air in China's most industrialized cities. In fact, the 3 Gorges dam, when filled is suggested will tilt the earth. Imagine that dam in a 7.9 earthquake.

Who has put China in their financial success? We have. Who will pay the price? We will, and we already are. Get used to it.

You know, I personally know a lot of athletes on one of our Olympic teams and I'm proud of them and excited for them no matter where they play. So the games are in China and location selection is about money guess what, it always has! While it was hard to discern whether you were ranting about the Olympics being hosted in China or the fact that the PUSA will be in attendance, it's hard to say. You know, I'm not a fan of Bushie but I admire the fact that he's going to represent us as a proud member of the United States who is proud of its athletes.

It's funny that so many people here don't recognize their own hate-filled retoric (such as is nightly on FOX news, etc.) reversed. It's certainly over the top, but nothing compared to what comes out of the mouths of hate-mongers like Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh on a daily basis. I tend
