Ups and downs
Recent news has been full of eye-openers

The ups
• Hutchison High School senior Kim Wilson, who racked up an incredible track and field foursome at the state championships this weekend in Fairbanks. She won the triple jump, long jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter run. The victories brought Hutchison 40 of its 46 points at the meet.
• Wal-Mart. The mega-retailer sees a way to help recycle-starved Fairbanks do something to ship waste material Outside for reuse. The store will load recyclables — cardboard, plastics, paper and aluminum cans — aboard empty trucks and get them to Washington state for recycling.
The downs
• The person who stole $1,200 from the North Pole home of 33-year-old cancer patient and mother of four Sammie Dominick, who is in a fight for her life. Does it get much more heartless than this?
• The ugly fan. The fight between a fan and visiting players at Friday’s Intense Football League game shows the Carlson Center and the Fairbanks Grizzlies need to review their practices. “We’re fortunate no one got hurt,” is the word from Grizzlies owner Chad Dittman. He and others need to make sure the odds of such a thing happening again are greatly reduced.

This deserves an editorial?
Very weak editorial. Apparently nothing going on in Juneau with our billions of dollars of surplus or sports arenas for Anchorage when our university on the hill has been asking for bios funding for years is an up or a down?
A lot of other papers have a weekly Up & Down section, I like it.
When I read "ugly fan" I thought of my ceiling fan...so ugly! I heard on the radio today that Walmart is insisting that it is not a recycling center. So now I am confused.
Way to go Kim Wilson!
Print the Fan and the players name on the frount page!
