Now is the time to inspect and repair curb and roadside mailboxes, according to the U.S. Postal Service, which has designated May 19-25 as Mailbox Improvement Week.

Postal customers are requested to replace loose hinges on mailbox doors; repaint rusted or peeling mailboxes; remount loose mailbox posts and replace or add house numbers if needed.

In Alaska, postal customers wishing to erect mailboxes along high volume rural highways are urged to contact the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for assistance or visit their Web site at http://state.ak.dot.us/mailboxes.

Answers to any other questions regarding use of names or numbers on mailboxes can be had by calling your local postmaster.

Is it Mailbox Improvement week again already? Wow, the time goes so fast. I do have fond memories of last Mailbox Improvement Week. Good times....
