Remove old signs

To the editor:

Nothing makes me happier than spotting a yard sale sign on Saturday morning. Nothing makes me angrier than finding out 15 minutes later that I’m on the trail of a yard sale that happened two weeks ago.

Why can’t people take down their old yard sale signs? You are littering paper with your address posted. The only responsible thing for me to do is collect the old signs and turn them into the police.

I will gladly use my fuel to drive to the police station in the hopes of saving a little fuel next Saturday when I will be aimlessly driving, studying houses, looking for another orange sign which will never appear.

Hey Kristen- as much as I agree about the signs needing to come down I also have a suggestion: read the newspaper! There is an entire section in the classifieds that lets people know who is haveing a yardsale THIS weekend and even in what section of town.

It's against Borough ordinances to post signs on public right of ways. That includes stop signs and street signs. I think it's inconsiderate at best and littering to boot.

You know, the signs probably have adresses on them, perhaps you could drop them off at the persons house. No no no...I am not saying that the person who put the sign up should not be responsible for it, I know they should. What I am saying is that if they are dumb enough to leave a sign up long after it should be, and then to leave their address on it as well? That's just begging for someone to leave it at their house for them. On a related note, this is also how I determine who I will or will not vote for alot of times. If I see a political sign that is up long after the elections are over (not the ones on peoples houses and in their yards, the ones on public property) guess who will not be getting my vote if they run in the next race. It is a clear indication of someone who is not able to follow through a job to the END.

I agree with the letter. Drives me nuts! And the worst ones are in North Pole, where you have to drive a long way to find out its nothing.

JB- Some people have yard sales and do not advertise in the paper. And these people notify the public of their yard sale by posting signs. Just because a yard sale sign does not have an address that corresponds with an ad in the paper, this doesn't mean it is an invalid yard sale that weekend. Some of the best yard sales I have been to weren't in the paper. Classifieds are the obvious place to look first but there are many more yard sales happening on the weekend than listed.

Frozen Paint, I can't for the life of me imagine what good it would do to return the signs to the offender. That would only be doing them a favor.

Although I don't think that the police or the justice system have time to deal with these litterers, I wish they would!

Maybe along with the applause section the paper should have a for shame section and these litterers could be posted there.
