To the editor:
I am a former president of the Women’s Igloo 8, Pioneers of Alaska. I have been a subscriber to your newspaper for probably 50 years. The Pioneers of Alaska, Men’s Igloo 4 and Women’s Igloo 8 consist of men and women who have been in Alaska for 30 years or more. They have come from all walks of life, supplied jobs, preserved and made history and supported many charitable organizations each year. Our women’s Igloo 8 is the second largest in Alaska with more than 800 members. We have Igloos (for men and women) in almost every city in Alaska.
My main reason for writing is I was disappointed with the fact that we don’t warrant color photos in your paper when we have our yearly installation of new officers and especially the King and Queen Regents Coronation.
Last year when I called and complained, I was told, “We don’t put color on the local page.” I read your paper every day and I find it hard to believe that this is the case.
If you don’t put color on the local page, then I suggest that you put the article on the front page next year. If you have a problem with it costing too much, please inform us and I’m sure we can help you out on your finances.
I do commend Mary Beth Smetzer for the excellent reporting she did on this story.

Why don't you pay for a color advertisement?
Actually the pictures were in color on the net. With the cost of ink now since ink actually contains oil, I understand why less color is in the paper. With the cost of ink and paper products we're lucky to have a printed publication.
Like new sour dough says next time pay for a color ad. Or print it out from the website on your ink jet. WALLA Full Color article.
they put a color photo of a stinky sneaker in the paper but not of the king and queen.
Jeez oh peetz... First we have people crying that they didn't make it into the paper, now we have people crying that they weren't profiled in COLOR. Give me a break. Next we'll be reading about people who have a problem with the typeface used in their story, or that so-and-so has 268 words in their story and crybaby only has 241. Oh woe is you... Yes, I do feel sorry for you, but not because you were the unfortunate victim of a black and white photo.
I think these groups warrant the front page and a color photo. They do a lot for their towns, most behind the scenes. And she did write that they WILL pay for a color photo. Re read it.
Yes, she'll pay, but it is still up to the DNM what they do with their paper. It would do more harm than good to have orginizations paying to tout themselves. Its fair the way it is now.
