Fairbanks police today arrested a man accused of killing a 21-month-old-child in August.

A grand jury indicted Travonti D. Osbey, 24, of second-degree murder earlier this week. Osbey is charged with the death of Tarayvien Isaias Prescott, who was found not breathing and with a broken arm on Aug. 11. The child died a few days later.

Fairbanks Police Lt. Dan Welborn said police had been investigating the case since last summer but were waiting for a medical report before making an arrest.

“That was key,” he said.

Welborn would not elaborate on how police suspect the boy died. He described Osbey as the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother.

Why? It hurts me so to know that a helpless infant was abused so bad. Endless shame on the monsters who do this.

Is there never going to be an end to this madness! It is so frustrating when hearing about these children being viciously abused or murdered! Children look to adults to love and protect them and we fail as a community to do so. Poor little sweet angel. My condolences to the family.

Why is it that the old saying "an eye for an eye" is never followed. This animal deserves no better. He will live comfortably in a prison cell for a few years (maybe). But that beautiful baby can never experience life now. How unjust is that?

I had an ex boyfriend who burned my child. I had no idea he was capable of doing that. It happened while I was at work. Women need to be so careful with boyfriends and there young children. Especially young inexperienced boyfriend who don't have a connection with your child. In my case there was no signs. He spoiled the hell out of her and never raised a hand to me or her. I was fully blamed for the event and still to this day have to go to counseling over the trauma and doubt as to whether I could have done something. It's amzing to me what can lurk underneath.

I'm just glad my friend is finally getting some justice. It will never make all of the pain of losing Tarayvien go away, but I hope it helps her, and he needs to be off the streets if he is capable of doing something like this to an innocent child.

First of all, my heart and prayers goes out to the baby mother, family and friends. For all of you who are accusing my brother of murdering an innocent baby, you are wrong. I have known him all of his life and has encountered him with children. He has a love for children. He even has a son of his own, whom he loves dearly. My question to all of you as well as to the detective, why did it take so long for the medical report to come back, and why wasn't he arrested after the baby died. If you are saying that he had a broken arm and other fractures, don’t you think that would have been enough to arrest him at the time? I have seen too many investigated shows to know the protocol. Get your facts together people. I believe the state of Alaska as well as the people there is trying to find someone to pin this incident on, and just because he was there a course he will be the escape goat. And for all of you who is plotting together by getting behind closed doors to get your story together, shame on you, God sees all and HE will be the judge, let every man be a lie and God be the truth. The law says a person is innocent until proven guilty. If you have anything to say, please fill free to contact me at t_osbey@yahoo.com
