This photo of the Alaska Icebreakers 8U team was taken March 9 at the Alyeska Ice Puppy Pond skating rink at the Ice Park. Since 1999, Clutch Lounsbury and his volunteers have constructed and maintained the rink for young and old alike. Every March, Ice Puppy and Ice Breaker teams compete, are awarded trophies, and show their skills to the enjoyment of parents and other spectators. The Fairbanks Figure Skating Club has also performed on the rink. The Alaska Icebreakers 8U team is made up of twelve 6-8 year-old girls. During the President's Day tournament in Anchorage, this team won four out of the five games. Many of the teams they played were all-boys. The team is coached by Luther Brice with help from assistant coaches Heidi Kubichek and Rodd Moretz. Information: www.alaskaicebreakers.com
