I photographed this stunning sunrise on the Steese Highway near the Miracle Mile. My mother and I were visiting Central on a short trip home in September 2007, and we nearly ran off the highway when the sun came up in our rearview mirror. It was a wonderful fall visit with NO mosquitoes, and good friends (The Symons) in Central opening their home to us.

Taken March 11, 1913, this real photo postcard No. 346 shows one of Ed Orr's stages, and is captioned "Fairbanks Stage and States Mail. Tanana Alaska." The stage is loading up with mail from the post office in this picture, which is also a cigar, tobacco and candies store called Tiffany's Orr had the contract at this time to take the mail back to Fairbanks, and anything headed to the Lower 48 was probably sent on his stage to Valdez, then via ship toward the final destination. — Candy Waugaman
