Members of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds perform precision aerial maneuvers in F-16 Fighting Falcons during a practice demonstration Monday afternoon, June 23, 2008, at Eielson Air Force Base. On Tuesday, the Thunderbirds, along with other military aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor, will perform in the Air Force exhibition “Soaring into Solstice” at Eielson. The event is free to the public with gates opening at 10 a.m. and the headlining Thunderbirds performance at 2 p.m.
This is a short-eared owl that my son and I came across on our midnight sun Parks Highway joyride. This one took off just as I was trying to photograph it.
I took this picture of my husband and our two border collies while we were out camping along the Steese Highway. There were three big beavers swimming around and the dogs loved to watch them.
My son, Russ, and I took a drive down and up the Parks Highway solstice weekend to take photographs under the Midnight Sun. We left Fairbanks just after 7 p.m. and didn't return until 5 the next morning. This particular photo is a juvenile short-eared owl. A Denali Park ranger came along and place the little critter off the roadway and out of danger.
A nest was built in a planter just underneath our kitchen window. It had not been prepared for flowers yet and a momma robin took over. The result—three baby robins.

This photo made the whole drive worth it—the midnight sun reflecting on Denali. Not long after this shot was taken, the weather turned and the mountain was obscured for the remainder of our adventure.
Found this beautiful morel mushroom in the middle of my yard in Lemeta Subdivision on Wednesday, June 19. I cooked it for dinner, and it was great!
