•The Fairbanks Rotary Club is pitching in this week with dollars, turkeys  and lots of volunteers to help prepare Thanksigiving baskets for people in need.
The Fairbanks Community Food Bank expects to provide up to 1,500 food boxes Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Fairbanks, Lord of Life Lutheran in North Pole and various other entities that work with the food bank. Not all of the boxes will contain turkeys, but thanks to two large donations, most will.
Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club came up with 600 donated turkeys, while the Rotary Club is helping provide another 600.
Today was the  big day for unloading turkeys at the food bank in South Fairbanks and volunteers began filling the food boxes. Dinner rolls and baked goods are still in short supply.
There were about 10 Rotarians there this afternoon and more are expected Tuesday and Wednesday. Many other volunteers from other groups are helping out, as they always do, but the Rotary Club made a special effort.
