• Former Gov. Sarah Palin writes in her book that her son Track advised her not to quit her job as governor, Kate Snow of ABC writes today. Palin’s son told her, “Don’t let the jerks get you down.” “His view was that you don’t quit. You don’t violate your contract. There is pain, you push through it, you stick it out,” Palin wrote in the book.

“Then he brought it home: ‘No dishonorable discharge. You only leave if it’s honorable — that means you move up to something more worthy.’’

“I asked him if he thought protecting Trig and his sisters was ‘more worthy.’ I asked if fighting through the bull so that I could reveal truth and fight for what is right for our state and our country was ‘more worthy.’ I asked if breaking free of the bureaucratic shackles that were now paralyzing our state was ‘worthy.’ “I finally said out loud what I knew I had to do,” Palin said. "’I’m not a quitter, Track,’ I finished. ’I’m going to fight. And that’s the point.’

• Chuck Todd of NBC said Palin describes Juneau this way in her book: “Politically, Juneau always had a reputation for being a lot like Animal House: drinking and bowling, drunken brawls, countless affairs, and garden-variety lunchtime trysts. It’s been known at times to be like a frat house filled with freshmen away from their parents for the very first time. At other times, the capital city’s underside was even darker: clandestine political liaisons and secret meetings, unethical deeds and downright illegal acts. . . . In short, it was a lot like Washington, D.C.”

•In a review, The New York Times says the book is “party cagey spin job, part earnest autobiography, part payback hit job.”

•The Web site Media Matters for America says that one of the complaints that Palin registers against a legislator was wrongly attributed to a Democrat in the state Legislature, when the “offender” was really a Republican.

The site quotes this from page 344 of Palin’s book:

"It was almost funny, certainly ridiculous, the political buckshot critics fired our way. Nationally, pundits and reporters would criticize me for focusing on Alaska and not attending the celebrity-packed events we were invited to Outside; locally, the opposition would criticize me for focusing on national issues — as if I suddenly needed to become parochial and think of Alaska’s issues as irrelevant to the nation. In Juneau, one Democrat lawmaker complained that I wasn’t as “sparky” as before and that Piper and I no longer brought around bagels like we used to. The few times I hustled out of the state to attend, for instance, a fund-raiser for kids with special needs, my Juneau critics said that they were being abandoned."

•On Jan. 31, the Associated Press quoted Republican Sen. Bert Stedman of  Juneau as making the “not so sparky” comment. The story went on to say that he worried that Palin might not concentrate on the problems the state was facing, given her national celebrity.

The same story went on to quote Democratic Rep. David Guttenberg as saying, after the State of the State speech:

“I think her speech was not directed to us but right over our heads to a national audience,” said Rep. David Guttenberg, D-Fairbanks, who remembers a much different Palin from just six months ago.

“There were days when she walked around the building with (her daughter) Piper handing out bagels. I think those days are gone,” he added with a touch of wistfulness.

"Palin says she's not a quitter." And Clinton said he didn't have sex with that woman. And Bush said we have to kill them in order to liberate them. And Cheney said it wasn't torture. And Obama said he was for single payer and ending the wars. And they all said the Patriot Act was good for our nation. I'm beginning to see a pattern here.

Americaisgreat, I am astonished that you do not comprehend that world air movement is crucial to America's national interest. I can now see, even as astute as you appear to be, that you, like your Gov. buddy Bobby Jindal are of like minds. You neither have the forethought as to what constitutes a "national threat" to govern the nation

Emmm....not a quitter? Then who wrote that resignation? Some alter EGO?

At least Track understands the contract he's currently under.

YukonJohn- Natural disasters are not covered in the Constitution. The federal government only started to respond to natural disasters during the late 1920's. They have spent the majority of their existence doing absolutely nothing when disaster strikes such as in Galveston, TX or San Francisco, CA. They had some pretty bad hits 100 years ago.

The moral of the story is that people are primarily responsible for taking care of their local issues. Sorry John, you are not entitled to New Yorkers tax dollars for your projects.

....wow, i dont think people will EVER get over the palin bashing...its stupid

i mean she is NOT our governor anymore...get over it...Like if she quit because of the reasons she is saying...can we blame her? seriously...?

I mean, shes just a person now, not in a political place of power, so stop treating her as such. If she does try to run for a futher office, then she was lying about why she got out, then let the bashing happen...

the past is the past, all we can/SHOULD do is respect her decision and move on...

AlaskanO - "Nice way you only quoted the liberal media once again. Most of the time I do not read the crap you spew however, this time I knew you were going for a liberal jab at her."

Just an observation: Only two (2!) of the sentences in the above editorial did NOT contain direct quotes from Palin's book. Two questions for you: 1) What "liberal media" were you referring to, and 2) What in the world do you find offensive in the editorial - or are you on auto-pilot, conditioned to respond negatively to anything Mr. Cole writes?

I think that Jindal's objection was that the volcano observatory was misplaced in the jobs stimulus bill. Remember? The bill that was supposed to put Americans to work back when unemployment was at a staggering 8%. He argued that the bill funded projects that would not help create the mass of jobs that the administration promised. I think that he was correct in his conclusion. The nation is now at 10.2% unemployment, closer to 17% when counting people that have gone to work part time.

The volcano observatory might deserve funding, but not in a jobs stimulus bill.

Large national natural disasters are covered in the Constitution!!! They are a reason the government was founded! Our national govt. was founded for a mutual defense and for handling problems that were too great for a single state to handle. Volcanos are a hazard to air travel, something that is crucial to our survival. The hurricane center also fills a national role. Dust off your Constitution and give er a read.

YukonJohn- Why should tax payers in New York and Arizona have to fund some volcano watch center in Alaska? Here is a wild idea - make people pay for their own expenses. Why should I have to fund some hurricane watch system in the Gulf? These are not "national security" issues, they are natural disaster issues. If you don't want to fund these things for the specific area you choose to live, then choose to live elsewhere.

And if a 10 minute, poor rebuttal speech and half ass example of government waste from 2008 is all you have against Bobby Jindal, he's off to a pretty good start. I'd be here all night if I were stating the cards stacked against Obama, Pelosi and Reid.

Bobby Gindahl, who would not fund the volcano observatory cause he does not see the need for them. I bet he would think different about the National Hurricane Center.

Boy thats a deep story from Palin. What a crock. I too was enthralled with her. I was chosen to drive her and be security for her group when she came to visit The Alaska Guard in Kuwait. I now think she is worthless and has given Alaska a huge black eye. People change sometimes for the worse. Too bad for Palin that her 5 minutes of fame went to her head. She could have told McCain, "Thanks John, but no thanks. I need to work hard for my state". When I voted I had to pick the lesser of 2 evils. Sorry but I no longer want "MAVERICKS" running my nation. I think the only person coming out smelling like a rose is Levi ! Good Ridance Palin !! I have a group of folks ready to help you pack !

If this pseudo-conservative gets elected President, Will she violate her contract by quitting to protect her family from far worse future scrutiny? By what she is apparently writing in her book, it would be irresponsible for her to even consider forming an exploratory committee.

Some of my favorites for 2012 include LA Governor Bobby Jindal and IN Governor Mitch Daniels. Newt Gingrich would probably be a good VP choice or at least top adviser.
